That was hands down the worst loss in the Tory Verdi era. Gave up a triple double and resoundingly beaten by a D2 team. The first year players looked shell shocked (like vs Towson last year). Sidney Taylor was a bright spot though. I am very high on Philoxy but there was too much iso-ball and doing it by herself when an open pass / "the right basketball play" was obvious.

Low turnover margin though was impressive. Should not have even been a game at all though.
They apparently thought that the UMD exhibition was more than just a waste of time. Correction, they are a D1 team, NEC..last year was apparently their last in D2. The D1 move is how they got on the football schedule.

I watched the last 7 or 8 minutes and they looked awful. Hailey looked like she was having a tough time out there. Was hoping to see Donnelly, but she didn't play while I was there. I will say this, #24 for Merrimack looked like she could be all A10 first team.

Need a major improvement very soon.

Losing to Merrimack in the fashion they lost is inexcusable. Verdi should be fired tomorrow. Don't trust Bamford finding his replacement though, even though wasn't this hire led by his Ast AD at the time?

Same old same old with Verdi's teams. I was shocked when they extended him. Extremely embarrassing loss...

Last night's loss make me question the pre-season hype.

Based on what I saw they haven't turned the corner. In fact, it didn't look like they knew where the corner was. :(

Yeah, not a good start for the gals. It's only one game, but that's pretty much unacceptable for where this program and team should be right now.

A loss today against Providence. They had the lead late in the 3rd Q but couldn't close the deal. It was a good bounceback effort from that awful loss against Merrimack. Donnelly needs more confidence down low but is learning the aggressiveness needed at this level. Team shot around 20% from 3. Hampton-Bey was back and the team really keyed off her energy. I have heard that her roster spot was tenuous, so hopefully she realizes this and is ready to go as the A10 schedule gets underway.

Next up is the first road game AT UMass-Lowell.

Interesting re: Hampton-Bey. At one point she was one of the best players on the team. Verdi continues to have issues with players season after season.

I don't believe if anything was related to Verdi. From what I know, there as an incident not related to basketball and her roster spot was up in the air because it was not known whether she would be dismissed from the University. She's had the hot head throughout her time here. Let's hope that being held out of a couple of games and then coming off the bench will help her realize how great of an opportunity she has.

I'm really a fan of Hampton-Bey and am glad that her return was really positive yesterday.

As for issues with players year after year, what do you mean? There have been academic issues but I feel that is more on the player not taking advantage of the vast opportunities for support offered through UMass Athletics.

IF Verdi was "glad" the team lost to Merrimack he must've been ecstatic over the loss to Providence! But seriously what has happened to Leidel . . . she has gone from a can't miss 3pt arsonist to can't buy one and no one else is shooting much better!
