2019-2020 Season
The Amherst Gazette is looking forward to next season, so I thought it would be a great time to post the new season thread.
https://www.gazettenet.com/UMass-women- ... h-26356371
From the first paragraph, this is exactly how I feel. "The fact the Minutewomen has their best season in 12 years, finished at .500 or better for the first time since 2006-07 and still felt like it underachieved a bit is a testament to the progress Tory Verdi has made in three years at the helm."
I am super excited to renew my season tickets when they become available. I am hoping for a Top 3-4 in conference play and hoping for a post-season tournament this year beyond the A-10 tournament (likely NIT or WBI). I think those are realistic goals, but a home playoff game is a must for me this year (Top 8 in the conference). Really interested to see how Anil has progressed/healed this summer and whether Bre can return to form and maintain composure throughout the game. Philoxy is by far the most exciting player to watch on this team -- worth the price of admission alone if you ask me.
Also excited to see the OOC schedule -- would love to see some big conferences in there, even if we lose. Playing the likes of UTRGV, UIW, etc do nothing for the program.

Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

A new transfer from Siena College. Unsure if she is a graduate transfer (does NCAAW have that?) or will have to sit out a year.

Has to sit a year. Wants to get her MBA from UMass, so I'm guessing she'll finish some undergrad work while she sits out.
Re: 2019-2020 Season
3 transfers is out of the ordinary for the women's team. Only Breen will be eligible this year (2nd semester) so 2020-2021 should be interesting. Sims looks like a player and both she and Breen add some size. We'll have to see what Oliver brings.

The transfers should be interesting -- I have heard really great things about Breen.
I know UMass WBB hasn't been a draw for decades, but I am very excited about this season. I think Tory Verdi was the answer the program was looking for -- program is moving in a positive direction and there is a lot of passion/effort from the whole team. I wonder what benchmarks they have set for themselves this year.

Soysal not on the summer roster. Saw her in some of the practice pictures though. Maybe writing was on the wall? Nelson easily the better of the two at the end of last year.

Interesting. Don't see her in the picture of the pool party at Verdi's house. This continues the 1-2 players every year who leave. Hope this is finally the breakout year for Verdi's squad, and we start to see some consistency.

Not as concerned with the loss, though I hope she plays elsewhere or can finish her degree. So many dropped passes into turnovers and slow moving with the knee recovery, and I think not as good as Nelson.
With Maeve Donnelly who looks to be in the same league as Maggie Mulligan and Angelique (NH player of the year) in addition to Nelson, I think writing was on the wall.
If Philoxy or Bre left, that would be more troubling.
I think we will see them get over the hump this year.

It looks like this went well:
UMass Women's Basketball @UMassWBB

- in Europe after a 101-43 win over Belém Elite!

Another easy win and another double double for Donnelly. Here's hoping she's our next Maggie Mulligan.

Re: 2019-2020 Season
From the roster I see 4 captains named for this year. Hailey Leidel, Vashnei Perry, Jessica Nelson, and Bre Hampton-Bey. Two seniors, a junior and a sophomore. From what I have seen, they should do a great job leading this team.
