Candice Finley has gone to Xavier Women's Basketball program.

https://goxavier.com/news/2019/4/22/can ... nator.aspx

Not to be confused with Candice Walker, the recipient of the 30 under 30.

Unsure what this means for the program -- Finley was a recruiting coordinator, but from what I understand, Finley is more valuable to the program. Walker came over a year after Tory did from Eastern Michigan and Walker is a Dawley holdover that Verdi has seen a lot of promise in.

Last year when Danny went to USF, people were wondering why all Tory's assistants are getting poached, it must be somewhat of an honor as they are going to "more prestigious" conferences.

Why is Asia McCoy not on the spring 2019 roster? She’s such an outstanding player this year. What’s going on with Verdi losing assistant coaches every year and players....players that come
With top backgrounds from high school. What’s going on here?

^ Compared to the men's team, only losing 1 coach and 1 player would be considered stability. Not sure what's up with Asia. Her twitter account still has all of her UMass info.

I have to agree with this sentiment. He has lost quality players every season he has been here.

Sat next to her uncle at a couple of games. Near the end of last year, we were wondering why she was not dressed, getting less minutes, etc. He told me that she was apparently not going to classes more than she was going to classes, failing, etc. I would assume she was unable to stay academically eligible. I do not believe it a basketball performance decision. Looking at UMass on the list in the below link, it appears that her going to a Junior College gives credence to that. We had a similar situation a couple of years ago with Ryan Holder who had a great first-year, then went JUCO, then came back to D-1 with Towson.

Guess there will be enough scholarships to go around this year -- I know some of us were wondering on that math a few months ago.

WRT to Verdi losing coaches, they are going to "better" conferences and teams. Big East and AAC the last couple of years. I'm not worried about the future direction of this program.

That is encouraging, or at least better than leaving for "lower" or lateral positions. Hopefully, the replacements are just as good. Wonder what it'd take to get a budget increase.

Asia McCoy has left the UMass women's basketball program, according to a source close to the program. McCoy struggled to end her freshman year last season with the Minutewomen.

From what I know, her struggles were academic. Student comes first.

From what I hear, she is transferring to a Junior College which would be consistent with academic problems.

Kind of surprising with all the academic support nowadays that, as you said previously, she wasn't going to class. Don't they follow up on that stuff?

It happens. If they can lose track of a 6'10, 350 lb. person, they can easily lose track of a diminutive person like Asia.

You can have all the academic support in the world, but if people don't use it, then it doesn't matter.

FWIW a couple years ago at the season ticket holder event, Leah McDerment talked about how extensive the support is. For every class at UMass, there is some study aid. I think for someone coming to a big school like UMass, it is so easy to get distracted by the fun that you forget the real reason that you're there.

We lost Ryan Holder a few years ago. She went the JUCO route and then played at Towson (they went to the tournament and lost to UConn IIRC), so hopefully Asia can rebound and come back to D1 for both academics and athletics.
