I agree. They pretty much beat lousy teams and have not beaten any team that is decent. North Dakota played last night at URI And lost by 14, yet they came in and beat us on our home court. They were 1-4 coming into this game. I am not impressed with what I have seen to start year three of the Verdi era. They have a couple of solid guards and a few good shooters, but the front court is weak. Hopefully they can pick it up and have a solid performance in the A10.

Very disappointing! It's going to be another long season. UMass has not been able to recruit any good big players.

Anybody know what's going on with Rivera? I saw parts of a few games early last year and she looked like a potential 3rd team all A-10 player. She made shots and rebounded. This year she has disappeared.

She has disappeared because she isn't playing much if at all anymore. She got maybe 4 minutes today max and has been a DNP at least a couple of times in the last few games. I don't get it, because they could definitely use her size and athleticism.

Verdi is a bad coach and was a poor hire.

I was one of about 100 people at the game last night.

Oof. Many of us had high hopes for Verdi, me included. Hope this isn't the general consensus at season's end.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Interesting that the Verdi hire unlike hockey and men's basketball and soon to be football hire are Bamford's. The AD let his Associate AD at the time (who has since moved on to Georgia) make this hire.

Nothing wrong with that, fits in with him working with a small team to make the decision... that's exactly what he said in the email. She may have made the final recommendation, but he of course makes the final decision to be passed up to the Chancellor.

Not out of the ordinary for such a hire. Darrice Griffin was the Senior Woman Administrator at the time, so it only makes sense that she be heavily involved with hiring the women's basketball coach.

The women are at undefeated Northeastern today. This would be a quality win.

Re: Rivera's lack of playing. Rivera tries to do it all herself and is unable to. Bad shot selection, looks lost on set plays, and it's clear to me (just a fan) that she just doesn't fully know the offense/defense which is unacceptable for a Senior -- hence starting McCoy as a first year player. A player like Cierra Dillard can carry the offense and did so a couple of years ago. But seems like she averaged 20+ and was able to take Buffalo to the Sweet 16. Rivera would take the same amount of shots it seems and get 7 points.

I still think Tory is the person to do the job. The UND loss was bad but it was the 4th game in 5 days. All of Tory's recruits are still young and make first year / sophomore level mistakes. Philoxy has pure athleticism and Bre is growing as a leader. I still think we will have a winning season which would be the first one in a LONG time.

The bad coach's defense just held undefeated (7-0) Northeastern to 15 in the first half.

Just sayin'.

We are up 22 - 15 at the half. Both teams are shooting very badly.
