Their "report" is really making the rounds this time. Usually just the Globe runs with it, but I've seen it on both MassLive and the Milford Daily News.

As far as I know, UMass's enrollment still has the highest percentage of in-state students among the New England flagships. Only UConn is in the same ballpark, the others are way below. On the other hand, maybe it's not a bad thing that the report compares UMass to Cal-Berkeley and UNC-Chapel Hill, and completely ignores the other New England state U.'s standards. That said, Cal and NC are bigger states than Mass, and I'm pretty sure there's a strong correlation between state population and the percentage of in-state students at the flagship campus. Hence UVm admitting only 20% Vermonters in their 2015 freshman class. There are a couple graphs supporting what I'm saying at that linked article. This seems like something a highly informed group like the Pioneer Institute ought to already know.

^ Yes that is correct, there is a positive correlation between population and in-state percentage. Image

Now the Herald ran an editorial....it's bad and the reader comments are worse, which is what we would expect from those Yahoos.

I don't know if this documentary series has been posted on here, but here it is anyway. I just found out not only about the Maura Murray case but also the speculations on the internet. Scary shit. https://www.amazon.com/Code-of-Silence/ ... ray+oxygen

~18% using linear regression. It's a weak correlation for sure, but excluding 3σ outliers (California) that number jumps to a more reasonable (although still quite weak) ~25%.

Former professor Glenn Wong was an arbitrator for the Julian Edelman appeal today.

This is a stretch, but Harrison Ford and family were in Amherst. Wonder if his son is looking at UMass ( why not? or perhaps more likely, Amherst College )

It's probably been posted on here before, but Season 7 Episode 4 of House guest stars a patient who was on the cycling team at UMass. She had a broken rib and was operated on at the the UMass Med School. Not sure I'd want to be in an ambulance for that ride all the way to Worcester. Has to be what at least $3,000?

Not sure if the House writing team didn't know that we didn't have varsity cycling (although there is a club team if that's what they're implying), or if they were just hiding all kinds of tiny clues. Turns out she had committed identity theft. Used a social security number from the 1940s and was never even registered at the University.
