on a recent road trip I bought "breakfast" at a McD's
a bacon/egg/mcgriddle meal ....that 's a small bulk coffee, a hash brown pattie and the sandwich...$12....the sign out front said now hiring $15/hr with a $2 bump if you worked early or late shift....over $30K yr to get your order wrong. "Living wages" will spawn kiosks and NO employees making $17

If it's more profitable to use machines, their implementation will happen regardless. Keeping that in mind, if a job currently exists, it means it is currently not practical or feasible to automate/outsource. If you need a person to do the job, the least an employer can do is give them some dignity and pay a living wage. If you can't pay a living wage, and you can't raise prices or afford to create additional cost efficiencies to do so, then you shouldn't be employing people.

I also believe in strong social safety nets. But these programs shouldn't be subsidizing business owners whose models only work by paying people below a livable wage. Let those businesses fail. Put pressure on management to find more effective models.
