If you truly want to see how far the UMass program has progressed I would strongly encourage you to watch the most recent episode of UMass Sports Insider. It's absolutely amazing to see this program now!

Not exactly going UM’s way at BU.

Got home in time to see the 3rd period of the game. The damage was done by then. This team apparently is what the records says. I'm not sure what to make of the Denver series. Catching a good team off a championship hangover, the same thing Minnesota State did to us last year? Denver badly outshot us in October, especially on night one.
But look at who the Minutemen have beaten and who they've loss to and it looks like UVM, UNH and Maine to come will be welcome sights on the schedule. We're gonna have to win the league to go dancing, being 24th in the PWR.

I was at yesterday's game. They're definitely not as sharp as the last few years, but comparing it to ten years ago the team looks good and is fun to watch.

can someone who follows hockey recruiting explain to me how after winning a natty and developing the best defenseman in the western conference, how this program is not better than it? Where are all the blue chip recruits?

Really hope we do not come to regret bamford handing out a lifetime contract to a coach

We have the talent. The team swept Denver and tied Quinnipiac. Not sure why they're struggling so much in Hockey East. Might just be a case of the freshmen needing more experience.

They're on Comm. Ave. It's no secret Carvel's strategy is to recruit from the blue line out. So if your Joe "potential to score 15-20 goals" where are you going? To UMass where, today it's Ufko and what looks like a disinterested Scott Morrow who has scored 0 Hockey East goals and a system, build around them and right now anyway, goaltending that is notch down to what carried this team for 5 seasons? Or are you going to BC or BU where it appears they like a blend of O &D.

UMass won the Natty because of D & Goaltending but you gotta score to get there. The winning year, you have a goal scorer in Gicewicz with 17, no one close after that. The runner up year, right on the heels of all world Makar is Jacob Pritchard with 47! points also Leonard and Chaffee on their heels.

I may be wrong, I'm just looking at the Hockey East stats page, not anything scientific.

I didn't add this yesterday, what really discourages me is the lack of interest overall for 22-23. This team seemed to not only not gain back what they lost in players, but lost in the non player category too, just starting with the assistant coaches. There are not even 10 posts in this thread after last October. I'm trying to be more active here and post game day threads, but don't always get to it. There was nothing for the BU or UNH games.

I don't know, just feels like there only a handful of us posting.

I think the lack of hockey posts is because this is and has always a basketball board first.

Doesn't help that some of the hockey heads (UMass02, FTT) just don't post here anymore.

Excellent point. I think of the people that would give me the most good insight are gone. The media, both local and University do a fine job covering games and broadcasting them. But some of the deeper information on recruits who were coming and just plain old good insight was provided by Fear The Triangle. And on the broadcast arm, I got that from Brock Hines. Fear the Triangle doesn't post here and where I followed him on Twitter, he was less active it seemed and then went on a complete shut down mid December, not hockey related. And now on the radio, Cooper, Nate and Donnie, who are the regulars (as opposed to solid TV coverage that doesn't see the team regularly), just don't have the flow as the old radio did.
To follow my post above, just seems like a lost has been lost, both on and off the ice.

Guess we have to pick up the slack if we want this to be an active community.

I think we'll learn a lot about this team this weekend with UConn if we don't know it already. We shouldn't be at the bottom with Maine, UVM and UNH. Or should we be?
