My 8 year old grandson's love for hockey has got me watching it more than ever...he's playing his first season and has had two games at the practice rink at the Mullins Center. Cale has replaced Zdeno Chára as his favorite player. He got a kick out of seeing the UMass team working out in the weight room during his 8 am game one Saturday morning.
Xfinity is giving a free preview of NHL Center Ice So I was bouncing back and forth between several games. The NHL Tonight on the NHL Network is great for live look-ins. Love seeing UMass guys on the ice.

Sadly, the play was #2 on the SportsCenter top 10. Some random slam dunk somehow beat it out.

Makar makes all-star game roster. He was edged out in the fan voting for captain.

Went to the Bruins-Avalanche game, a 5-1 B's victory. Makar was a non-factor at -2.
That said, inside a paywall, is a really nice summary of Makar as a student at UMass - he made a lot of positive impressions.

Makar chases down Anze Kopitar to disrupt his breakaway goal attempt. Just a few seconds later, Makar sends a shot to the goal which is redirected in. Anze Kopitar is not happy and perhaps did not like the flavor of his Gatorade.

It's nice to see people really starting to get how special this kid is. I'm obviously too young to be able to know when it clicked for people that Bobby Orr was that special and going to go down as a -Greatest of all Time- player, so it is hard to compare timelines... but I'm loving seeing people jump on the "Cale is the next Bobby Orr" bandwagon.
