Game 27 (2018-19) @ UML

Post by jjmc85 » Sat Feb 09, 2019 12:37 am

This is a huge game. If UMass wins, it all but locks up first place in the conference. If UML wins, they have the tie breaker and are only two points behind. They're also riding something like a 9 game unbeaten streak. If there's ever a time to beat Lowell, now is it.

We have lost the last 10 games there. Time to end another streak.

Time to end the losing streak there and show them who the flagship is. Plenty of tickets still available if you're in the area. Would love to see a big UMass crowd there.

Down 1-0 early.

2-0 Lowell after 1. Hopefully Carvel can make some good adjustments in the first intermission like last night.

Shut out for only the second time this season. Lowell continues to be our Achilles heel.

Sucks, but it's true, at this point of the season, UMass-Lowell is the best team in Hockey East. Their domination of UMass over the years has long passed the embarrassing stage. We have had a great season, but so sick of losing to them.

One issue tonight was face offs...Lowell won that battle, 40-28.

Basically everything was a problem. Lowell dominated the first. UMass was lucky it wasn’t 4 or 5 nothing, and it only wasn’t cause UML kept missing wide open nets. And the first power play the UML guy stole the puck and UMass couldn’t get it back and Ferraro took a penalty to make it 4 on 4, which UML scored. The game was over at that point. It was insurmountable. It sucks.

Reading Carvel’s quotes after the game about the players not being up for it in Molly Walker’s piece is further infuriating. This is such a backwards “rivalry.” Our fans and apparently put players don’t really care about it: about as little as BC or BU typically cares about us. Cause we’re the “flagship” and they’re beneath us or whatever other crap. Their fan base and players live for this. There’s real passion and it shows. They get up for it. And they dominate the Minutemen over and over again. And apparently not just in hockey either as this clinches the Kennedy Cup. They weren’t even division 1 in anything but hockey 5-10 years ago! 8 wins to 3 now this year in all sports. This is honestly embarassing and infuriating and I really hope UMass figures it out but I really doubt they will. This has to be the only “rivalry” where the only people who care about it win over and over and over again.

Hopefully Providence bails us out and sweeps them and someone else upsets them in the quarterfinals. I don’t want to see UML on the ice again this season.

I did not see as many UMass fans in the crowd at Lowell as I expected, although there wasn't a whole lot to cheer about either. Definitely less UMass fans than other road games. For example the @ Northeastern game 3 weeks ago was made up of about 50% UMass fans.
