That was awesome. Against his Calgary team too. Saw the phone holder. Good pub. Wonder how long they will keep the Amherst pride. Seemed to like it in western mass.

Nice story with a video interview: https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/cale ... -306794306
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."
Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker
Went to bed and flipped on the game and saw Cale's first goal. The crowd was really behind him as were his teammates. Showed his parents and while his dad was taking pics, his mom was just looking around and mouthing "oh my god". What a week for the Makars, gotta love it!

Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker
Cale looked really good/comfortable in that game last night. Pretty amazing to jump into your first NHL game, a playoff game, and fit in like that and actually stand out. He looked super fast and his puck control/decisions looked like he'd been playing in the NHL for a while. I'm sure he'll have some struggles as all players do, but what a start for Cale. Great day for the UMass family.
Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker
You could see the nerves on his first shift (obviously expected) but after that, you're right he more than fit in he looked like an asset. That goal was a thing of beauty - strong on the puck, speed to get to the front of the net and the finishing touch to tuck it five hole through traffic. Kids gonna be a special player.
Question about his ELC... Does it burn year one because he's playing or would he have had to play in the regular season to burn the first year off. Would be a real windfall for him if he essentially got only a 2 year deal on his entry level salary.

Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker
He burned Year 1 of his ELC just by signing, and he also made himself eligible for the 2021 expansion draft by playing. So Colorado would need to protect him or expose him to the new Seattle franchise.
You have to assume that's something the player/agent can forces on the franchise. That's the leverage they have ... sign me now, or I'm going back to college. Although it sounds like the Avs made the hard push to have Cale in the lineup for last night. That's how much they think of him.

I wrote this ... it's gotta be true.
Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker
Is there a way they can still protect him from the expansion draft, like signing him to a new longer term contract? I'm not familiar with the NHL rules.
