Glad to see he'll be back along with the other 4 top scorers from last year. We better have 2 good recruiting classes because we may lose a lot of good players to the pros at the end of this season.

Per report from @eliteprospects via @collegehockey, #UMass F Austin Albrecht (@albrecht2711) is transferring to AIC

The 5'11" 185 F had a 6-5-11 line as a freshman last season, scoring half his goals in the HEA playoffs

Flemington, NJ native would have to sit out next season
For those that follow hockey more than I do, how significant are the transfers we lost to the program? My guess is that Carvel is upgrading the lower third of the roster.

^ Bit unusual for a league rival (NU) to accept a grad transfer from us, isn't it?

Don't think such a thing happens in the A10 (basketball). But, now that I think of it, didn't we have a grad transfer from Providence College last year? I guess it's done in Hockey East.

FYI, Grad transfer Niko Rufo who played for us last year came from Providence. Defenseman Josh Couturier transferred to UMass from Boston College.

John Leonard drafted by the Sharks.
John was a counselor at my daughter's hockey camp this past week. He was great with the kids both on and off the ice. I'm rooting for him even more now.

Should be a solid season. Most of the players are back (hopefully bigger/stronger), plus some new recruits. Not going to surprise anyone next year, but should do OK in Hockey East.

This should be a much better team next year. What we lost through graduation, transfers or players leaving the program should not hurt at all. By the looks of things there are a few strong recruits coming in.

Talk about an upbeat article!!! Then I looked at the author and he is a UMass grad, but his credentials are good.

Based on @FightMA247 Twitter account, it looks like the shakeout expected to the roster has taken place. We already know that Plevy has grad transferred to Notheastern and that Lazarus has left for Mercyhurst, but now the rest of the story:

Jeszka transfer to Merrimack -- not a surprise to me as he only appeared in 12 games last year

Albrecht transfer to AIC -- Both Austin's now gone from roster. This one surprises me. Played in 28 games, with 6 goals and 5 assists, and I thought he was an excellent 2-way player.

Torpstrom to the KHL. Didn't play much at all. No surprise.

That's five guys gone. Wouldn't be shocked to see one or two more.

Season tix holder for hoop but have only made about 3 or so hockey games in last 10 yrs, but even with an hr+ ride out to Amherst, I'm going to try to make more hockey games this year to see guys like Makar, Ferraro and Leonard while they're still at UMass. Couple games I watched on TV last year were very enjoyable

^ Contact me when you are heading out to a game. I have 2 season tickets but live in the Midwest, so I don't make it to many games. Chances are my seats would be available! I've committed to being better about actually getting people to use my tickets this upcoming season.
