^ I saw that and think it's great, but I wouldn't get carried away just yet. His stats in Jr. Hockey were nothing to write home about. Maybe he just needs another year to develop. It wasn't clear to me when he is arriving in Amherst.

^ From Dewey: "It’s undetermined whether he’ll enroll at UMass in the fall of 2020 or 2021."

Neutral Zone @_Neutral_Zone
3.75⭐️Taylor Makar to UMass. Excellent at controlling pace w/the puck on his stick. 6'1" frame w/room for weight. Balanced and is able to extend possession to wait for plays to open. Solid first year of Junior. High ceiling.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

I think something that's a bit overlooked here, thanks to the Makar connection, is the potential to set up a recruiting connection with a Juniors team that's gone 245-44-11 over the past 5 seasons.

Last line of the article:
He also follows former Bandit Oliver Chau (Oakville, ON) who committed to UMass after an AJHL Rookie of the Year campaign with Brooks in 2016-17.
I mean yeah, 2 players...but still, it's a start.

When UMass committed to Cale, his junior stats weren’t overwhelming either. Vice versa, UMass had players come through with great junior stats only to flounder when arriving in Amherst. Don’t immediately discount the kid based on junior league numbers.

^ I am more confident after seeing that he's taking another year or two to develop and also seeing the report on his skills. John Leonard is a great example of this. He tore it up in high school against somewhat mediocre competition. When he got to juniors he really struggled his first year and we know how he turned out.

Don't scout the stat line.

+1

PTS / FG% / Reb / Blk / Ast / Stl
17.7 / 54% / 5 / 0.7 / 1.8 / 1.7

^^
Why not?
He won a National Championship by hitting the game winning.
ACC Freshman of the Year
First Team All America Soph and Junior year.
National Player of the Year after Junior year.

Aren't those considered stats?!?

"Stats" and "Stat line" are not the same thing. Case in point: you listed stats that are not part of his stat line.

One might call those accomplishments rather than stats. Either way, I'm glad we got him and I'm glad we have a good connection to what looks like a very good program.

Will also be cool when Cale, an NHL star, comes back to watch his little brother at the Mullins Center on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.

We'll be looking to see if we're home around when Colorado comes to Boston. Worst case, we will be playing one of the Boston schools.

Playing Maine at Mullins Dec 7 when Colorado is at the Garden
He could come Dec 6 vs Maine off day for Avalanche
