board construction

Post by MikeUMA » Wed Aug 20, 2014 11:22 am

We may be going through some changes in the near future. There's a behind the scenes FUBAR which is finally spurring us (mostly JJ's hard work) to update the board software.

This issue is preventing us from adding any new users. For those who want to join, please be patient while we work through this.

Things might be a little funky for a little while. I've also did some dusting in most of the forums, deleted old topics that haven't been talked about in over a year (excluding Men's Hoop).

Thanks to JJ for all his efforts. This place wouldn't exist without his help.

Does this mean a new version of the board or will it stay the same? Personally, I don't want this format to change at all.

Thanks for leaving all the polls in the general discussion section. Nice timeline of events in the life of this board.

Brian, it means the most up to date version of this board. Format will stay the same and it will look the same. Users and posts will be retained. It will just have a hell of a lot more features than this one and it will run smoother.

I'm testing colors off-site. Once I get that worked out, we'll go.

Ok, great... this format is so clear cut and perfect as it. Glad to hear it's not changing.

The new board looks fine. Basically the same format, but less clunky.

Doc, much faster, more modern, less susceptible to spammers, and much less of a pain in my ass when it comes to the issues that those things would bring previously

You're not kidding, this new format is quick even on my ancient work computer. Nice job

Awesome. Glad you guys approve. I spent a ton of time trying to come up with a maroon and white scheme that actually worked. That took the bulk of time as far as this upgrade.

Like this nice, clean look.

Much "more better" for my broken down eyes!

One thought - This might be a good time to get rid of some of the "sticky" threads that have no posts for several years. That would make for less time scrolling to find current stuff.

I just noticed that the number of my posts has been cut by almost half. What happened?

Hmmm... that, I'm not sure. I know that Mike did do some pruning a while back to conserve space. They could have gotten blown away when he did that.

I imported (allegedly) the existing database from 9:10AM in its entirety to this new board when we went live.

I did some resetting of post stats. I think one option I used might have lowered post totals if old posts were deleted, which I do from time to time.

No offense intended, and I didn't really think through the unintended consequences, like this one. Oh well, it ain't the end of the world.
