Daily Hampshire Gazette coverage

Post by MikeUMA » Mon Aug 14, 2023 5:07 pm

Just saw that the primary beat writer for UMass sports from the DHG, Kyle Grabowski, has left the paper, moving east to take a job at MetroWest Daily News.

Another loss for the DHG, that seems to be inching closer to extinction. If you value what they do for the community, please support them.

He wrote a departure column:

Interesting though that he didn't mention one word about UMass, was mainly about the high school sports beat that the paper had him on. Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but I've sensed they've shifted their remaining focus more towards the local HS circuit and less so for UMass. They don't send him to away games anymore, as budgets have shrunk and priorities have shifted.

We'll see who fills Kyle's shoes. @Hannah_Bevis1 was covering women's hoop. She's good, that I've seen, but there's only so far they can stretch a resource.

Also, there is little to no coverage of the Flagship teams in the Springfield newspapers, as well their online presence Masslive.com.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

The kid who replaced Matty V was solid, Kyle was much better at the high school coverage than he was UMass. Good luck to him though!

He mentioned covering the UMass Hockey National Championship in his intro article on the Milford/MetroWest Daily News site, but that was it about UMass.

New local guy at the Gazette: Garrett Cote

I already don't like him just because his name is way too close to Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole 8)

First major one for the new guy, this time with the correct spelling of the good Doctor's name.

EDIT: Leaving this one as is... gonna go to the grave saying I was taking a shot at MassLive here
