I was hoping for a different, younger but still established coordinator. I am glad we are not going with a learn on the job guy like Casula was. Montgomery has had the benefit of coaching talented players (big fish in small ponds, a few times) Big Ben, etc. His experience and seeming intelligence will hopefully allow him to mold an offense around the current players even if his go to system is not as QB run heavy-which I hope it isn’t. Run heavy/balanced is good. Can’t get our QB killed though. Feeling a bit hopeful. We have a lot of talent at the skilled positions. Need some guys in the trenches though. No system works without those guys.Rolling Ridge wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 10:23 amFirst I'm hearing about it. He looks like a solid hire with good experience, save the hiccup at Buffalo in 2021. I have no idea what type of offense he runs. Hopefully he'll be a good fit for the types of players we've been recruiting, otherwise we'll just have to start over, yet again.TheInsider wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:36 am Surprised no one is talking about our new OC SHANE
MONTGOMERY. Don't know a ton about him other than he has a lot of experience at the FCS/FBS level and tradionally he has had pretty good offenses with good balance.

Re: 2024 Season
^Spot on! He's 180 degrees from Casula: Experienced, known, mature. That being said as we all know it comes down to the players and hopefully they will fit with his system and coaching style. When you go from a fanboy coach like Casula to a former FBS head coach, it could be a big change...Spring ball should really be interesting!

Re: 2024 Season
I’ll take a veteran former Maction head coach all day. Anything will be better than what we have seen on offense post Whip.

I couldn't agree with you more.Camby4Life wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 6:59 pm I’ll take a veteran former Maction head coach all day. Anything will be better than what we have seen on offense post Whip.
Re: 2024 Season
Like minutefan said, we've got some talent at the skill positions, should be able to run & throw it. Lots of new OLineman & TEs that hopefully gel and mesh together. We could be explosive offensively.

Re: 2024 Season
Watched some JMU highlights from 2020.. They ran a spread/shotgun like everyone else in cfb. They liked using the TE down the middle of the field a lot.. a bunch of RPO's and a couple of designed QB runs. Looks like an offense our current QBs will be fine in.

Does Jean Sifrin have any eligibility left?

First time seeing this. Even his Wikipedia page still shows he's at East Carolina. Was there any official announcement?TheInsider wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:36 am Surprised no one is talking about our new OC SHANE

No, nothing official yet from the school. Reported via Kevin Stone and the New England Football Journal a few days ago.

^ The Collegian thinks it's almost official. Pretty good detail about his background.

Hiring process/paperwork at UMass is ridiculously slow. Hopefully they will announce it before or at the gathering in Boston next week.69MG wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 12:30 pm ^ The Collegian thinks it's almost official. Pretty good detail about his background.
