I didn't watch much of the game due to the delays, but seriously, what's up with this defense? Aren't they supposed to be the backbone of the team? It seems like they kinda stink. Averaging 43 points per game against has to be among the worst in the country right?
Edit: Just seeing now that the Miami receiver had 273 yards receiving, that's outrageous. Were there any creative attempts to cover, double team, bump this guy? He was pretty much their only receiving option. The QB finished with 302 yards passing, so if 273 of them went to Larvadain, the others guys combined for 29 yards.
gave up too many big plays.. still wondering how the Davis sneak was not ruled a TD. That horrific call may have been the difference in the game.
Hopefully the Qbs can play next week.
I salute those of us who stuck it out to the end!

With catches of 69 yards and 99 yards , Miami was in the Red Zone on every play…..

In Coach Brown's presser early in the week he talked about this kid and how they need to keep him from making plays obviously didn't work! Yes, we lost this game on defense but mainly we looked unprepared for the delays which both resulted in 2 quick Td's which were the difference!

Who would of thought that we wouldn't be worried about Casula's schemes and play calling but worried about Browns. That being said.. I have faith Brown and the defensive staff will clean it up. We can score.. that will lead to wins. As long as Puma or Davis are healthy, the next 3 are all winnable. Miami is a better team than any of those teams.

Im not the least bit worried about Brown's defensive scheme. Anybody who thinks "we lost this game on defense" wasn't paying close attention. Both offense and defense contributed to the loss. Defense picked off Gabbert in the first Q - gave our O a great opportunity w/a short field but our Goal Line offense failed to score from first and goal - embarrassing. Then our Offense fumbled the ball away for a TD inside our own 10. So thats 14 pts rt there. We turned the ball over 4 times and our running game was lousy. Still we were in the game. Defense obviously needs to play better in preventing the big play. But putting the loss all on the defense is BS.
It was a disjointed, hard fought competitive game - we spotted the Redhawks a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and we battled back with some strong plays on both sides of the ball. Thanks to a defensive Pick 6 we outscored Miami OH 28-21 from the 2d Q on. The Redhawks offense executed better than ours did and they earned the W. UMass has plenty to work on offensively and defensively in order to minimize the mistakes and keep getting better.

I still can't believe they said Davis didn't get in on that early goal line run. That was a big play

I don't know whose idea it is to have home games at 3:30. Never had them when I started going to the games. Screws up dinner plans for after the games and here for me as we like to go out on a Sat to eat around 5. Whoever in Amherst that made that decision should be tared and feathered and run out of town.

Game times at the FBS level are usually determined due to TV viewership. Obviously this is a ESPN+ streaming game, but ESPN may still have a say in what time slot and how many games streaming are ongoing at any given time.

Berkie - I’m about as old as you, but dinner at five is not a thing. Leaving the stadium at 6:30+ and heading for dinner sounds about right.
But, in any case, it is NOT our UMass guys picking the tv times.

With a 3:30 pm kickoff, breakfast, lunch have a tailgate repast before the game and the a light dinner - 4 smaller meals - eliminate 1 if you are strickly a traditionalist 3 meals per day guy

UMass still sucks but not nearly as much as the last few years.
Yesterday’s game was definitely winnable. I don’t what DB has to do to stop those ridiculous after the play penalties but if/when he does this team will win a few games!

That’s it…we still suck but not as much. I like “not sucking as much” to “really sucks” and hope we can get to “halfway decent” one day.

Are you really not able to adjust your schedule 3-4 times per year?
