Didn’t know what to expect, which is normal for the first game of the season. For the first time in I can’t even remember, we are not the laughing stock of FBS football. We showed up, held the lead and won convincingly. I hope they can build off this and win more games this season, judging by what I witnessed tonight, I feel encouraged, proud, not embarrassed to be a Umass Football Fan!

Don Brown: older guy, ton of experience, Mass. native. I have been saying he is the right guy at the right time for us. Last night was unbelievable. Gomer would have gotten blown out by half-time. Defense wins games.

This is what happens when you have a competent leader running things. Don Brown is basically Mark Whipple on the other side of the ball. So glad we beat NMSU cheap shot artists with the hit on Puma on their sideline. Fuck Jerry Kill and his tattoo. Fuck NMSU.

There will be more wins. I thought 2-10 with New Mex and Merrimack. You can add more wins. If no injuries at Auburn then yes a bowl game is possible.

MAC fans want us back in the conference because half the teams are one win away from bowl eligibility and our academic quality doubles the average IQ of the conference with just one team.

I hated the MAC.
still rooting for you

No offensive turnovers , wow, when's the last time that happened? Offensively much more talent was evident. Defense was solid, a few lapses, but made plays. Very good showing by the team. This builds the confidence.
Nice job to all players and staff, they've been working

I have to say that my assessment was "a bit" premature. It was his 1st start since HS and I am sure his nerves and adrenaline were through the roof. Once he settled in he looked good. Our receivers looked very good. We have some speed this year. If the O-line improves as most do with time playing together, we can be a good team.

With so many new faces on this team it was impressive how they hung together, trusted each other and made plays to close out and win the game. Impressed by both the players and coaches with what they have built in such a short time together.
Go UMass!!

Not really true... Don Brown spends his days living football and running a program.. Love Whip but he spent his days playing golf.

Must watch: @kstone06 on twitter has a series of short videos of DB at the podium post-game. Outstanding!

For those that missed the game or if you want to watch it again, ESPNU today at 2:00. My 2 stats of the day:

1. No turnovers (+3 for the game).
2. No sacks (we had 3).

Oh, and by the way, that heat really wore us down in the 4th Q. Hahahahaha!
