How the heck do you know what the MAC is thinking. I have first hand knowledge as have written Jon Steinbrecher, Commissioner of the MAC and has promptly replied back.

And that "firsthand knowledge" is...when UMass becomes even a somewhat respectable program we'll invite them for all sports. In the meantime we're not going to slice up our revenue with a doormat.

Am I close?

Only if Steve is allowed to to move all sports otherwise - Steve won't get any farther than RB has.

The best revenue sport from the A10 is in 3rd place and contributions also follow. This has been true for years!!!!
From 2019:
Contributions:
Football 767,515
Ice Hockey 336,805
Basketball 251,420

Revenues also follow contributions.
Football 3,608,769
Ice Hockey 1,017,785
Basketball 698,975

Revenue has decrease while costs have increased.

FY22 Men's Basketball Revenues: $587,017
FY22 Men's Basketball Operating Expenses: $4,454,120
The current media contract for the MAC is twice as big as the A10 and we are receiving about 1/2 the share from the College Football Playoffs being indy compared to the MAC.

Steve you are trying to make this point with people WHO DO NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER THE DECISION.

We all know the financials suck.... we cannot do anything about this.

As I said before - either the administration knows as well and doesn't truly care

OR

They do not really know and they are stupid.

I will let you choose the best answer.

I'm beat on the drum all day!

These are the big changes since 2014:
  1. The A10 was the best place to go without major football. That changed with the new Big East
  2. The major offset of the A10 NCAA Credits, which had been a major plus, dramatically changed from 8.x to 2.x credits. A sweet sixteen run for example is 3 NCAA Credits.
  3. UMass basketball performanced weaken, hence the declining revenue.
  4. The MAC media contract increased from 1.3M to 10M and the A10 has remained 5M.
  5. The success of the College Football Playoffs were huge, even for the G5
  6. Financials as revenue and contribution are now on these public forums
It's all these things gelling together is what I'm hoping will convince the administration into finally make the move out of the A10. Plus having played Delaware for 32 games, long history keeping the east coast presence is significant. Have been pointing out the MAC has good basketball at the top.

Basketball being so far behind football, bb has no business driving the bus. To be clear, care very much about basketball and want to be at the top of the conference, whether it's the A10 or the MAC. Think we can be very successful in the MAC.
Addition facts from 2019 and again thanks Nodak651:
The best revenue sport and contributions from the A10 is in 3rd place.
Contributions:
Football 767,515
Ice Hockey 336,805
Basketball 251,420

Revenues:
Football 3,608,769
Ice Hockey 1,017,785
Basketball 698,975

Winning affects home attendance/revenue more than the conference. Don't have the 2014 or last seasons m bb revenue but can see the 2019 numbers and 2022. The same conference and the revenue declined by 112k and the expenses increased almost 400k. Thanks MattBrownEP.

Not at liberty to post the commissioner's words and do hope that I get to meet him.

The AD is mid way through his contract. So far the men's basketball team has struggled under his watch and the same for football.

Merrimack has left the NEC for the MAAC. With the MAAC not sponsoring football, wonder where that program will end up moving forward...

Great for Merrimack, moving on up.

No idea what this means for their FB program but the NEC is kinda screwed now with only 7 schools.
