What is to be confusing? There is no 2020 season, even if they play in the spring it will be diluted and probably abbreviated (less games) - AND it will be in 2021 - hence the 2021 Season thread.

How does this affect his recruiting and his current roster of commitments? It will be interesting to see how this plays out if they have a spring schedule (in many many ways).

Personally, I don't think they will play until the regular fall 2021 schedule but who knows. Not cashing a check for $1.7 from Auburn is gonna hurt though....

The Auburn check, while a major source of revenue, had some costs associated with it that will not exist. It was also going to be spent on other costs, that will not exist. While it is a significant loss, they will not have to find ways to replace every dollar that the game was going to supply.

Although I hope UMass scraps something together in the spring, it’ll be difficult to do. If there is conference-only football in the spring, it’s definitely a no-go. In all likelihood we are looking at a Fall 2021 start.

I'm sure they'll try to set something up for Spring 2021, but they should just hold off until Fall. Either way, as we've seen, even the best laid plans can go way off course with this situation we're all dealing with.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

At least half our scheduled teams are currently scheduled to play this fall as CUSA, SunBelt, SEC, AAC, and Liberty.

Will UConn play this spring?

BigTen, MAC, PAC12, MWC, and others have postponed.

Given the above, we'd have limited options.

Don't shoot me, but MAC teams seem to be obvious and perhaps some West coast teams to start the season, despite the high travel costs.

Assuming a 8 game schedule will say MAC - 4, BigTen - 2, PAC-12 and/or MWC -2 games.
Go UMass!!

If we play in the spring and it's an 8 game schedule, I would not be upset with that list. If UCONN also plays, I would obviously prefer them over on of the further distanced ones (unless there's a big check to be had for being willing to travel to the PAC or something).

Otherwise, I'll wait until the fall.

UConn is currently not planning on playing in the spring.

UMass could potentially play New Mexico, New Mexico State, Akron, and Albany in the spring as they are not playing this fall.

I don’t know if any of the Power Two teams would have UMass for a non-conference game. Even if they did I can’t see the payouts being all that much.

I still kind of wish we went with 6 game schedule this fall.. Home vs Temple, Army, FIU, and Troy, Away vs App st and Liberty. That said, i think it would be good idea if they try for a 2-6 game schedule in March and April, but I am not counting on it because i think those that do play in Spring will just be playing conference games. I would even take a two gams series with UCONN if they choose to play. Beyond that maybe two games with N Mex St.

I would have rather played an abbreviated schedule this fall, spring football is a pretty stupid option in my opinion. I’m onto fall 2021 at this point for UMass football.

This is not pro sports watching on TV, it's UMass. A chance to get back on campus, tailgate-socializing, the band and the game. Hoping for a vaccine this winter so Spring games can be played with us in the stands.
Go UMass!!

This definitely would have given them a leg up on the race to the B1G in 2024.............

UMass gains nothing at this point playing this fall.

Well besides being able to play football on tv, kids getting to play, etc. I’m with Steve I wished they had stuck to some sort of reduced schedule for the fall. Spring is not happening and even if it did is anyone excited for it to happen with only certain schools potentially playing? I wouldn’t be. We’re onto fall 2021.
