09/03 – at UConnTruBluMaroon wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:43 amThis opponent means there is at least 1 more coming.....the Georgia Southern stories indicated that UM had a Sept 17 opponent that they could move...Marshall had a scheduled September 17 game, so it’s not them.,,
09/12 – Troy
09/19 – UAlbany
09/26 – at Appalachian State
10/03 – at New Mexico
10/10 – Temple
10/17 – at Akron
10/24 – FIU
10/31 – OFF
11/07 – New Mexico State
11/14 – at Auburn
11/21 – Army
11/28 – at Liberty
That was our planned schedule. No game on 9/17 and 9/19 is FCS Albany.

Along with Liberty it looks like FAU on 21 November: https://www.aseaofred.com/liberty-adds- ... -schedule/
Wonder if the Army game will happened on Halloween.

Re: 2020 Season
This is all good news. Bamford was put in a tough spot and he's doing his best right now. Schedule any game you can find at this point. Now we need to at least see some slight incremental improvement on the field with each game. Walt has to start showing he has some semblance of coaching acumen.
Re: 2020 Season
Econ has the just shut it down mentality which I wholeheartedly disagree with. He doesn't seem to care about the long term viability of FBS football but I do. A good FBS football program is a net positive overall for the university. Schedule any game you can at this point, shutting it down now would be disastrous for the football program.dennisdent wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 11:06 amI agree with the econ's post and sick of the personal attacks.

Thanks for being civil in these least civil of times.
Feeling entitled is JUST a feeling...
Re: 2020 Season
You're way off base with your strawman argument: UMass' increase in USNWR rankings and increased enrollment had nothing to do with FBS football. They occurred together and major R1 and AAU universities sponsor FBS, not FCS football.
My complaint concerning the last 9 years is the total academic welfare that is going on: over 30 coaches for a sport that borders on being pathetic. Our cost per win is ridiculous; per se an article I read indicated that UMass was losing games on purpose when the actual athletic budget was considered.

You got it Econ. I'm not going to name call just because I disagree with you on this particular subject, you're entitled to your opinions. You've always represented yourself as a respectful person on here.

I received a text from a less than satisfied alum, listing the following salaries...
McCall: $827,000
Bell: $628,692
Swami: 594,006
Carvel: $454,587
Bamford: $428,096
Total: $2,932,381
SM Q?
Are seemingly automatic pay raises, regardless of performance or generated revenues a Right or a Priviledge? ... an oft referred to term used by Pols

He struck out so many times last year that putting him on the roster this year is rather baseless.

Re: 2020 Season
Fight Massachusetts reports that the OL coached, Jim Jackson was canned last Friday. This just the start I think. UMass football has always been known as being a tough, physical, blue collar program and from what I saw last season and the first game was the opposite. I know they are young but UMass has had a lot young players who were physical in the past. I really think that offensive coordinator needs to go also.
Bell received a $25,000 pay raise this season per his contract, which is a joke of course for how poor the team played. He lost it due to the Covid reduction and some. How ridiculous is that he gets raises no matter how the team performs! In the "real world" we have EARN our raises...

Coaches are on multi-year contracts, and they have enough leverage to not require incentives for modest increases. Most of us are not. That's why.dennisdent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 4:26 pm How ridiculous is that he gets raises no matter how the team performs! In the "real world" we have EARN our raises...
Re: 2020 Season
One of us could direct the offense by saying " head towards the fire hydrant then a quick cut over towards the telephone pole and I'll throw you the ball."
The team would have the exact same record.

I would sent the receiver towards the fire hydrant, but stay with the route until the defense has gone past the fire hydrant (opposite side of the telephone pole), then cut toward the telephone pole. I don't think this would count as a pick play and we should improve our completion percentage significantly.
This will all be moot if the new O Line coach can't get us more time to pass.

Re: 2020 Season
That's why I said PER HIS CONTRACT. I have raises built into my contract but have to meet goals to receive them. It is ridiculous that coaches, not just Bozo Bell, don't have to meet goals to get a pay raise. Honestly, what "leverage" did Bell have coming into this job that warranted automatic pay raise...The two programs that he left, FSU and Maryland are both in the toilet and were when he left them. Bamford got bamboozled by Bell and his nice hair.MassMan06 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 9:10 pmCoaches are on multi-year contracts, and they have enough leverage to not require incentives for modest increases.
