Well this is a big wet dump of news that I still don't understand but the media is driving the narrative on this whole thing in 2020. Most likely onto Fall 2021 at this point.

I don't see how you play a spring schedule and then come back in the fall, unless it's a limited schedule that they can just call spring practice.

Agree - perhaps 9 games, with a 4 week training period. But every college will be in a different place as to Covid. Almost all University planning I have read about expect COVID plus the 'regular flu', which is why most colleges are ending their semester at Thanksgiving, or are turning instruction to 100% OL for the last 3-4 weeks.

Had a discussion about the "plus regular flu" part with a college professor over the weekend and, per her, there are scientific reports out now that are indicating that the traditional flu season might be way down due to all the measures taken with Covid. I think that will vary state to state based on what each state has done to protect it's residents from Covid, but overall that could be a good thing if it occurs.

Note: I cannot provide links to the source(s) and I don't recall where she said they were published.. this was a verbal discussion with a WNEU Biology professor with a PhD from UMass Medical, so I trust her when she speaks.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Just logically speaking it makes sense. If everyone (or most people) is out there wearing masks and being socially distant there's just not as much opportunity for a virus to spread. I'm comfortable just taking her word on that without needing to dig up the published piece.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/covid-19-m ... e=1&pos=11

"For the past two months, as winter descended on Chile, infectious-disease specialist Claudia Cortés worked tirelessly to keep a wave of critically ill Covid-19 patients alive in the hospital where she works. At the same time, she worried about what would happen when the usual wave of influenza patients arrived.

They never came.

From Argentina to South Africa to New Zealand, countries in the Southern Hemisphere are reporting far lower numbers of influenza and other seasonal respiratory viral infections this year. In some countries, the flu seems to have all but disappeared, a surprise silver lining that health experts attribute to measures to corral the coronavirus, like mask use and restrictions on air travel."

Boston College delayed the season and kicks off the season on the road in Durham, NC - Duke Sept 19th. Will host Texas State on Sept 26th.

Good for him but no loss to UMass as he was already gone from the program.

Watching the season get underway today and realizing that there are many programs who can and have been able to play underscores how unfortunate that UMass is not playing. Seems idiotic to me. Oh well - Go Appy State !!! :D

Everybody should be playing. UMass got caught up in the season cancel hysteria when the PAC 12 and big ten postponed. Wish they had taken a deep breath and waited like the sec, big 12, ACC, etc, there is no reason they shouldn’t be playing right now.

I agree. I think we would have had a 6 game schedule with 4 at home.
