The flagship...

Post by PreecherJenkins » Mon Sep 16, 2019 4:41 pm

I know we have some creative fans on this board.

I personally have my opinions on this flagship campaign.

After three weeks of inspiring football I ask you, Mr umasshoops.com poster to fill in the sentence

The flagship is....

The Flagship is "capitalized" :)
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

At the moment, it looks like the Flagship is flagging. I'd like to say "rebuilding," but I'm taking a wait and see attitude on that one. :?

The flagship is sinking.

On a serious note, didn’t someone in athletics marketing envision fans using this branding in a mocking manner? Why did the department continue to pursue this flagship branding? Is it because the university at large promotes it in their advertising, too? If you need to constantly tell people you are the flagship, then perhaps you aren’t.

On the contrary, there's the addege "fake it til you make it". Maybe banking illusory truth?

OK, so I had no idea about the flagship campaign. I thought the original question here was specifically about the football team. Any campaign that eliminates the "-Amherst" moniker is worth pursuing.

I like the #Flagship campaign, less so the #TheFlagshipIs campaign.

Either way, I think it's probably a good thing that athletics and the university are on the same page in terms of marketing. Athletics being the "front porch" and all.

Out of curiosity, why is (was?) this so objectionable to some here? Not trying to start an argument, just genuinely curious what exactly bothers people about saying "UMass Amherst."

I find it completely unnecessary. We're the Flagship and we were the first.
