Doubleheader day. Excellent! Same day as a home lax game at three.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Seems like a decent first class with multiple kids on both lines and some good defensive backs and wideouts. Wish we could have grabbed another linebacker and a pass rusher (especially after losing that one kid) but pretty decent mix of hs kids who will hopefully develop and some juco kids who can help out right away.

A name to keep an eye on is Hunter Salmon, 6’4” 300lb DL/OL from Catholic Memorial and son of former Minuteman Nick Salmon. Apparently will be attending Milford Academy and be January transfer eligible for the 2020 class. He made great strides this season under new coach John Dibiaso and a year at Milford should improve his recruiting profile.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Welcome to UMass to all 20 new signees. Hopefully, there are some sleepers in this class that will emerge in 2-3 yrs. Looks like some good experiened guys coming in from the JC ranks and the LB from Penn State should add some competition for starting jobs and some depth. Nice to see 3 guys from in-state powerhouse Everett-especially the rb who is listed at 230 but according to one recruitment site has the speed to play halfback. In terms of ratings, Rivals lists only 1,3-star recruit to UMass in this class.Too bad we lost the 3-star/all-scholastic lineman from Sudbury to BC,the linebacker who originally played at Kentucky (who rivals rated as a 3-star guy) and the big Nigerian defensive tackle from Arizona who ultimately decided to stay in state. Very tough to recruit 3-star guys when you only have 5-6 weeks and most are already committed during the early signing period.Looking forward to the spring game, especially who emerges as the starting QB.
Re: 2019 Recruiting
^ But we did get twelve 3-star recruits as rated by 247Sports Composite. Given all the recruiting things UMass has going against it, I'm pretty pleased with that (on paper).

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Thanks for th 247 data. I just checked and it looks like 247Sports rates 11 UMass signees as 3-star players. I agree I think that is a pretty good class, espeically under the circustances. Nice effort by the staff.
Re: 2019 Recruiting
Didn't Molnar run the no-huddle offense where UMASS never got a first down and the defense was on the field 45 minutes a game?

Re: 2019 Recruiting
He did not have any kind of decent offensive line either.
Re: 2019 Recruiting
Yes, but he inherited a mediocre FCS team (literally, based on the record in FCS) from the previous coach. I might be in the minority here, but I'm not convinced we had a large enough sample size (2 years post-FCS, or just 1 if you don't count that transitional year) to know how Molnar would have done with FBS level talent.

I'm part of that group. He inherited a bad situation from one of the worst hires this University has ever seen. I'm of the belief that it would have been a lose-lose situation for any coach hired.
Molnar did enough stupid shit to get himself axed though, don't get me wrong. The comment about women he made at the UMass Club was more than enough foreshadowing...

Something along the lines of the men go out and watch football while the women stay in the kitchen. It was... awkward.... to say the least.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Mediocre FCS team due to coaching not talent level. They were a year removed from almost beating Michigan at the big house. Molar was a dick and a poor talent evaluator. He wanted his guys in and only his guys. In football 21 and 22 year olds are need even if they aren’t the best. Boys vs men. Molnar was worse than dumpster fire.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Fri Feb 08, 2019 2:05 pm ^
