QB Platooning

Post by UMass87 » Wed Sep 05, 2018 11:49 pm

So Ford plays the first series. Comis plays the second series. Then Whipple makes a choice based on the game. So, against BC Ford has a series that ends in a punt. Comis has a series that ends in a touchdown. Whipple chooses, apparently based on the game, that Ford should play the rest of the half thus putting the game effectively out of reach. I should trust Whipple's coaching why?

Just play Ford. It's not that hard to do.

It's also quite amusing that so many posted, based on the Duquesne game, that there was no platoon and it was just because of the quality of opponent. Yep.

87, it's amazing anybody can defend Whipple's coaching at this point but Jack still does. Ford is about to pass Todd Bankhead on the career passing TD list for UMass and he'll be second to only Liam Coen. But yeah, let's keep fucking around with his confidence and stick Comis in there if he screws up once on offense. It's pathetic.

"Plattoning" has me cracking up and I don't know why.

Also, great criteria to look for in a coach there Jack. He coached Ben Roethlisberger when his current team was in diapers! He won a National Championship at UMass before many of them were born! GET A GRIP.

Did you even read the article? Whipple says he plays Ford for the first series and Comis for the second series and then plays each of the QB's based on how the game is going. Which part confuses you? The English language or my mis-spelling?

BC did a pretty good job of "plattoning" both QB's. UMass came out "plat" and it showed.

I don't like the platooning. Ford is the best bet for long pass plays. We were supposed to get beat by BC so weather it was by 1 point or 100 points it don't count more in the lost column. We need to move on and concentrate on the Georgia Southern game.

I don’t like the platooning either, and was hopeful it was only done as a one off in the first game. If Whip thinks these two guys are equal, he really needs to say so. Which also begs the question that has been put forth many times as to why the hell put FORD back out there vs. BC after Comis played better? The only reason to platoon is if they are equal. And if they are equal then as the saying goes when you have two QBs you have none.

I think the platooning is due to the differnt style and talent of each quarterback. Over Ford's career, he has a very hard time against teams that put a hard rush on the pocket and in fact he has got pretty beaten up and hurt physicially in the past against such teams. Whereas Comis has much more speed and will scramble out of the pocket which help him against such above teams. The teams that don't put pressure on the pocket is where Ford shines !

Whipple can still coach, but he cannot coach the team AND be the OC. That's been clear for years.

It's not easy for anyone, Whip needs to stop trying.
