2018 Season

Post by InnervisionsUMASS » Wed Feb 07, 2018 4:49 pm

Didn't see a thread about next year yet.....

Season ticket renewal emails went out today. There are a few changes to things, though it doesn't seem like anything too drastic.

Notice a few things.

Parking for season ticket holders, the complimentary lot is now 22 or south loop (your preference) instead of 11. Lot 11 will now cost an additional donation to the minuteman club, same as premium parking $50. Additional season parking passes for lot 22 or south loop is $25.

Personally have no problem with paying $350 for two season tickets with a parking upgrade and $25 each Putnam Suite upgrade for the BYU game.
The additional $500 donation to qualify for the Hunt Hospitality Suite is something that is understandable and in line with the Court Club.

I am looking forward to this season more than any previously. We have a solid returning base of players and manageable schedule that could get us to 6 or 7 wins.

I have had this discussion in the basketball thread, but too many people don't understand how our record got to what it is. They only see the numbers and a bowl eligible 7-5 looks nice on paper regardless of who we beat to get there.

There will come a time when "who" we beat is more meaningful, but right now a winning record on paper is what matters most.

we will have our first winning record when we start off with W over Duquesne. I do think 7 wins is the over/under.

6 games vs teams ranked below us along with Duquesne. We need to be bowl eligible next year and hope we don't get snubbed.

If we're bowl eligible, I'm thinking we don't get snubbed. There has to be a bowl that will think, hey this would be the first UMass bowl game. They might actually sell some tickets.

Have you forgot about the Tangerine Bowl or the Boardwalk Bowl that we played in? Not sure if the Tangerine Bowl was when there was 1 A and 1 AA or even the Boardwalk Bowl. But at least we have played in a couple of bowls.

I think the Pinstripe Bowl (NYC) would be well attended, but they have tie-ins with B1G and ACC. Military Bowl (Washington D.C.) might be easier to get into and would probably also be well attended. Of course whatever bowl will have us would be fantastic.

We participated in the 1964 Tangerine Bowl and 1972 Boardwalk Bowl as a member of the NCAA College Division, the modern equivalent would be DII. From what I understand the Yankee Conference sponsored DI basketball/all sports but College Division football. The requirement by the NCAA for conferences to sponsor all sports at the same division is what forced Yankee to move up to 1AA in 1978 from Division II (which replaced College Division in 1973).

Mr. Athletic Director - NO bowl acceptance in a cold weather city! Even Chattanooga was freezing.

Interesting Tangerine Bowl fact- Miami of Ohio beat Florida, Georgia and South Carolina in consecutive years (1973-1975)!!!

That was after the Tangerine Bowl (now Citrus Bowl) returned to it's University Division/Division I roots. From 1964-1967 it was a site for the regional finals in the College Division (Tangerine, Grantland Rice, Pecan, and Camellia Bowls). The Boardwalk Bowl replaced Tangerine Bowl as a regional final in 1968 and became the Division II quarterfinal in 1973.

We could be snubbed even if we got 8 wins. It all depends on how the conference tie ins go. I don't think we would get snubbed at 8-4, but I think @ 7 wins its closer to a 60/40 shot of getting in and 40/60 with six wins.

Oh no here we go again.... I'll be happy if we sniff .500 (for the first time EVER in our FBS days) - bowl participation will be gravy. I would think if we're eligible we'd get in one of them.
