Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
Who's coming to Homecoming? Hopefully we crack over 10K...
Alex Guerrero, my HERO!!!!
Re: Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
I was at the playoff game at Georgia Southern in 1999...our UM contingent was mostly based at the Marriott Riverside.
decent flight, then picked up my once-mine/then-daughter's car at her nearby SCAD dorm, to use while she was visiting back here.
Drove it to the game and parked in a further-away dirt lot we had to park in...
after the game, I was hauling back to the car, walking with Chancellor and Mrs. Scott, who had parked in the same area.
When we got to the lot, we were walking the dirt almost to our cars when a pickup truck filled with drunk GS students circled us, screaming choice words and giving us the multiple finger treatment.
Chancellor Scott looked at me, with a wry smile, and commented on the intelligence level of the GS students...
Very tempting to return the favor next week...

The angle of incidence = the angle of reflection: REBOUND!

I'm out. Had enough...May attend the Maine game since I have Monster seats, but that's the only reason.
Bamford has erased McCutcheon
Re: Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
Will be there and Signman OMG. You are going to take a truck load of drunk students and cast that to the whole GS institution, never mind that was a generation ago.
Go UMass!!

Watched the first half of GS NMST last night. Very hard to watch, even though there was lots of scoring. The scoring was all on broken plays, missed assignments and overall it was a crappy game. I hope we can play better than NMST against these guys on both sides of the ball.
Re: Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
I'm going and predict a 45-28 win
Re: Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
what an epic battle though although I think both teams are better than Charlotte and UTEP

Maybe UMass can move up to the best 1-6 team in the country.
Re: Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
Season stats definitely tell the story of UMass Football. We've had 2 takeaways to 7 for our opponents that has created 37 points of TO's to zero for us.
We've scored 154 points to 197 for the opponents so the points off TO's is almost the whole difference. Add the the 2 for 6 Field Goals vs 10 for 12 for the opponents and you can see that WHY we're 0-6!

If we can't slow down their offense this could turn into a shootout with the team that has the ball last wins.
Re: Game 7: Homecoming Georgia Southern
That '98 championship game in Chattanooga was one of my best UMass experiences ever, right up there with beating Georgetown in the '96 Eastern Regionals. We had maybe 750 UMass fans on one side, and there were 12,000 GSU fans on the other who believed God created football for the sole enjoyment of Southerners. Their silence at the end of the game was deafening. Yes, there were a lot of drunk GSU students there (of course, that never happens at UMass ), but I also met some really nice GSU fans after the game. One of them congratulated me but said UMass wasn't the better team, that GSU turned the ball over too many times. I politely reminded him that part of being the better team is not turning the ball over.
Great memories!

^That game was played in wet conditions and GSU I believe turned the ball over 7 times . . you don't win many games doing that even if you're the heavy favorite. I traveled to GSU the following year(1999) and agree with Sign Man, they were drunk and very rowdy. Oh, I remember the quote before that '98 championship game by one of their DB's when asked about his major . . "We major in National Championships"!
