Game 4 (2017) Temple
Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
another blown game. This team could and should be 4-0 or at least 3-1 and on their way to bowl bid.
Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
Some teams miss 3 field goals in a season.

^ The hockey coaching staff has done one hellofa recruiting job and they play with the big boys in the best conference.

^ You realize that the previous regime in hockey started the recruiting for this class and is participating at the same level as before. FB wasn't so fortunate with the previous staff and the step up in competition.

Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
Why is UMass the only team in the nation that seems to have a player go down to injury after about every 4 or 5 plays? Unreal!

I was simply pointing out to 69 that hoops isn't the only sport on campus that looks promising but, yes, I'm aware. I'm also aware that the previous staff lost a lot more than they won.TruBluMaroon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 9:37 am ^ You realize that the previous regime in hockey started the recruiting for this class and is participating at the same level as before.
Five years and counting. I never expected the team would start the season 0-4. It's difficult to watch. I'm not piling on here I will continue with the season tickets and support but must admit that sitting through 3 1/2 hours of mistake prone football is starting to wear on me.FB wasn't so fortunate with the previous staff and the step up in competition.
Let me ask you a question... Did you expect it to be this bad for this long?
Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
^I did expect it to be bad for a while, the common window being a building process of 3-5 years, making more progress each year. Entering year (6?), it's painful to see an 0-4 start and NO, wasn't expecting it. Don't think anyone expected 0-4.
Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
Whipple should be fired prior to the two-week bye. Most of the rest of the staff should be gone at the end of the year. Maybe Pinkham stays if he wants to. Other than that, see ya. I am pretty much where Swampy is. Will continue to buy a season ticket, but pretty unlikely I will be showing up at Ohio game. Although, having a chance to see the hockey team exhibition that night might get me out there just so I can see the new guys. Its putrid watching this team. Every week it is something different and most times the problems are self-induced. How many time does one have to drive 4 hours to get flogged before one learns it's not fun anymore?
10-54 (.156 winning percentage) since the beginning of big boy football. I wonder if any other team that moved up has started this poorly.

Bamford has erased McCutcheon
Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
The fact that special teams, mostly scoring kicking, has been so epically bad since day 1, tells me how bad the coaching is. It's arguably gotten worse with a total lack of emphasis
I'm with 78, there's no reason he should be here after the 2 week bye.

Same but I'll add that I would be in favor of giving Pinkham the interim HC title (though this would probably be a given).

Most other teams that step up have done better, but other established teams, like Kansas and Duke have had losing cultures worse than what we are enduring. Temple may have been worse too.78 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 11:42 am Whipple should be fired prior to the two-week bye. Most of the rest of the staff should be gone at the end of the year. If anyone didn't get a chance to read the Herald write up, please do so and pay attention to Whipple's quotes.
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/coll ... _to_temple
“But I can’t kick it. I can’t catch it. I can’t recruit until December. So we’ll just keep chopping wood and grinding. They have more resources than we have, better players. Certainly Tennessee has more resources and better players. But we’ll show up and be ready to go.”
What exactly is this and some of the other quotes? Was he throwing his team under the bus? How Molnarian! Sounds like he knows his time in Amherst is coming to an end. I wouldn't be surprised if Bamford gave him a ultimatum - win before the end of September or else. I thought a decision wasn't going to be made until season's end, but if Whipple is starting to talk like this...
Side note - if the Herald's quotes were from the press conference, why did they not make it into the Gazette recap?
Another side note - what's up with the recent bromance between UMass Athletics and Barstool Sports / ZooMass? Earlier this season, they didn't get media credentials. Last week Bamford took them to the woodshed for poking fun at the ODU game attendance. Now they are lovey-dovey on social media, or at least giving each other publicity. Both Bamford and Portnoy (albeit negatively) were in on the deal. Heck, even other Athletics social media accounts are giving them props. What happened over the course of a week? Are they trying to court the students by engaging with Barstool? I have no beef with Barstool. I really don't care what relationship Athletics has with them - I just think the 180 is kind of funny.

Re: Game 4 (2017) Temple
^ Correct, he (THEY) can't recruit until this December.......BUT, HE has been recruiting been recruiting the past THREE Decembers!! He has been "coaching" for the past FOUR Januarys. As the HC and OC, when the QB gets sacked 8 times in a game, I would hope that his experience would be enough to make sure that situation does not happen again...........but he didn't throw anybody under the bus for that did he!?! I agree that UM does not have the resources that others have, but I thought their greatest resource was going to be Whipple!! I must have conveniently forgot that during Whipple's first tenure, the total wins went down each of his first three (3) years
