Speaking of 8 sacks, is it me or does Ford seem to be a step or 2 closer than normal for the shotgun snaps? Appears awfully close, and he doesn't really drop back much either. Any reason?

The Barstool thing is interesting. Portnoy mocked football last night tweeting that UMass has the worst field goal kicker in the country.
Bamford has erased McCutcheon

Now I will put in my two cents about firing Whip at the two bye week. Hardly doubt that will happen. Bamford just don't fire coaches during the season. What I think will happen is that after the last game of the season Bamford and Whip will sit down and discuss his future with UMass. I think that he will be convinced to retire as head coach and a position in the Athletic Department will be created for him for the last year of his contract. Something like an Assistant AD with some kind of assistant to the AD in the FB area. Remember when it happens you saw it here first.

^^ It was here first.....Sat Nov 21, 2015 6:07 pm Re: Game: 11 Miami OH (Senior Day-McGuirk)

Could....... OR Bamford could get MW to move into athletic fundraising and raise the money to build the Mark Whipple Alumni indoor practice facility and expand McGuirk. Bamford has some major decisions to make before its too late. Game 1 attendance in 2014 at McGuirk was 17,000, today was 8,839.

Hey, there's hope. Current 2-1 Ohio U which just beat Big 12 cellar dweller Kansas may attract a few East coast Bobcats' fans.

Well I guess we can take solace in that ND smoked BC yesterday at the Heights!

If anyone didn't get a chance to read the Herald write up, please do so and pay attention to Whipple's quotes.

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/coll ... _to_temple

“But I can’t kick it. I can’t catch it. I can’t recruit until December. So we’ll just keep chopping wood and grinding. They have more resources than we have, better players. Certainly Tennessee has more resources and better players. But we’ll show up and be ready to go.”

What exactly is this and some of the other quotes? Was he throwing his team under the bus? How Molnarian! Sounds like he knows his time in Amherst is coming to an end. I wouldn't be surprised if Bamford gave him a ultimatum - win before the end of September or else. I thought a decision wasn't going to be made until season's end, but if Whipple is starting to talk like this...

Side note - if the Herald's quotes were from the press conference, why did they not make it into the Gazette recap?

Another side note - what's up with the recent bromance between UMass Athletics and Barstool Sports / ZooMass? Earlier this season, they didn't get media credentials. Last week Bamford took them to the woodshed for poking fun at the ODU game attendance. Now they are lovey-dovey on social media, or at least giving each other publicity. Both Bamford and Portnoy (albeit negatively) were in on the deal. Heck, even other Athletics social media accounts are giving them props. What happened over the course of a week? Are they trying to court the students by engaging with Barstool? I have no beef with Barstool. I really don't care what relationship Athletics has with them - I just think the 180 is kind of funny.

I really don't know. Just thought it was interesting to see Bamford and UMass social media go all-in on Barstool this week. Also found it interesting that Portnoy tweeted about a football game on ESPNU on a Friday night. I'm almost sure there is no formal deal, but it sure looks like something is shaking behind the scenes.

I guess. I wouldn't say its not possible but I still don't think its likely. Portnoy may have gone to Michigan but he has always loved UMass. Barstool was literally built off word of mouth in New England colleges and UMass was a huge part of that. Its pretty common for him to comment on UMass.

I'm sure you are right that Portnoy comments about UMass occasionally (I don't follow him so I don't know). I just thought the timing was funny after seeing at least three UMass-related social media accounts promoting Barstool. They don't bother me, but I know it sure bothers other UMass fans.

We'll be there, but not in the same numbers we were at Gillette in '12. We had very respectable numbers then, and had a great time as well. Stop by our tailgate and say "hey", we don't bite. I'll be set up in Lot 22 by 11:30am at the latest, look for the tailgate flags. Looking forward to it.

Portnoy had a VERY public feud with UMass several years ago. As popular as Barstool is with college age students and athletes I would not be surprised if Bamford extended an olive branch. Barstool also has a VERY heavy influence in New England (Boston/MA in particular). There is absolutely zero doubt in my mind that if Bamford (more likely Amherst & UMass PD) allowed Barstool to have a tailgating event at a home game it would be our highest attended game of the season.

Some teams miss 3 field goals in a season.
The problem with our field goal kickers is that the two guys that did kick lat year are injured so we are using a walk on.
