I would add Isaiah Rodgers to the list of bright spots, as well as the transfer from Hofstra. Ford was okay, but his decision making in critical situations continues to be highly questionable.

Was there any reporting of the chair throwing incident on the sideline late in the game?

UMass football....the misery of losing has to end sometime, right? No way this team can lose the next game at Coastal Carolina! Will it? Nothing surprises me anymore...

Coastal Carolina was a very good FCS team before moving up. I would be shocked if UMass is favored next week. Hmmm, a chair-throwing incident...

Very disappointing game that we should have won. Lousy fumble on the punt and poor coaching in trying to run out the clock when we were still ahead. Why did we not have three or four players around the 10 yard line to protect from the long pass and run.

Marshmont_63 wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2017 11:31 pm The most preventable problem tonight was the coaching decision with four or five minutes left in the game. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. YOU DON'T PLAY NOT TO LOSE. I get that they wanted to run time off the clock, but you knew exactly what was going to happen when they fully committed to that strategy. Honestly, Whipple needs to be fired. I know most people don't want to hear that, but this team has shown absolutely no ability to win close (one possession) games. The play-calling is infuriating. Overall, it's just a massive letdown every game. Every year, I deceive myself by thinking something is going to change. And in 5 years, nothing has changed.
The current situation feels a lot like the situation basketball was in last year.

Whipple has to go or you might as well just shut the whole damn football program down if this is truly the best we can hope for.
Feels like it's Whip or bust. Can't see anyone better being interested in coming here. No conference affiliation, worst stadium situation in FBS, and low pay compared to other FBS programs. Just don't see much hope for the future at this point.

I have not seen any post game interviews. Did Whipple explain what the thinking was on that last play?

Tough loss - same issues - can't run the ball and can't stop the run. Consequently not able to put Hawaii away in the 4th Q. The program is improved but if you don't have interior linemen who can block and penetrate then you can't put teams away. Throw in a few special teams errors like a shanked punt and a turnover on a fair catch and you lose. Our guys played a good game and they deserved the W. As to play. Calling - agreed needed to move the chains w/4 to go. Needed to get 2 first downs and change field position.

This is such a terrible excuse for not firing Whipple. Highly doubtful you'd get someone good enough to turn the program around and spurn better jobs down the road, but for over $300k a year and an opportunity to work your way up the coaching ladder there are probably plenty of coaches willing to take this job and make a go of it. Fuck, didn't we pass on Don Brown to hire Whipple?

Mark Whipple is a good coach. The program has steadily improved since he arrived. Do some of you people have amnesia as to what he inherited from charly molnar ?? the playcallling in Q4 was suspect. But the team played pretty well and they should have won. The chicken little sky is falling crowd needs to chill out.

Love the "the chicken little sky is falling need to chill out" ine Jack. As far as the new guys on one game was impressed with #44 Bryton Barr and very much less so in #30 Tyler Hayes. The thing that bothers me some and maybe it's my lack of knowledge is the continue attempts to run up the middle. Especially in the second half when we do not seem to gain much in the first half. Heard Coach Whipple mention some mistakes with the offensive line. So maybe it will work in the near future. Wish we won, but glad we have a solid chance next week against Coastal. Regarding the defensive did not expect major improvement based on looking Coach Ed Pinkham first year at Western Michigan. It will take some time, but we have been all waiting so long the loss really stung.

This is eerily similar to the situation with the basketball program and Derek Kellogg. This is Whipple's 4th season and the same inexcusable shit just continues to happen every year.
