Actually go to your argument, the numbers don't lie. None of the teams UMass lost to at the beginning of the season have improved as much as UMass. 4 wins in 5 games has not been matched by ODU, Hawaii, or CC. so......
Maybe...maybe not...depends on the quality of schedule that they played. Maybe the teams they played were of much higher quality then the team Umass played with losing records. So it is up in the air on who Improved more.

Give it a look. I'm pretty sure app state, Mississippi state, and BYU are better than the conference USA etc, that ODU, hawaii and cc had to play. Yes UMass beat an FCS Maine team. One metric, ESPN fpi has our schedule as tougher, and we've moved up in these ratings far passed the first three opponents.

The four team Umass beat are 10-31 I think. Other than hail state there is not 1 team on the schedule worth a damn really. App state is average at best. Best thing to happen to Umass football....Florida hurricane...took a beating off the schedule in usf and gave them a nice 2 week break in the middle of the season. I do agree...I would say Umass probably has Improved more than Hawaii and odu and cc. I don't even consider g. Southern. Them and Tennessee fired coaches already they are so bad.

So, you see your initial point was wrong. Umass lost to those crappy teams by a score or 10 points. SteveMaz stated we would beat them now. You blasted that, but now you agree we've improved more than them. No one is arguing that the schedule is full of great teams. You've just injected that idea here when you contradicted yourself. If UMass were to play those first three teams now, they would be better and most likely win, that was the point you disagreed with.

I said probably....Umass maybe has Improved more, than them. Getting a 2 week break after getting off to a staggering 0-6 start really helps a team and then you play a brutal squad that is worse than Umass in 0-9. Umass Improved due to,having a long break and playing a crap squad at home. Bottom line Umass lost to,them....done deal and can't be redone. Only game I would, give them is beating CC now. We could play the ifs and buts game all day long. Bottom line...Umass lost to,those teams when they played when scheduled. Done deal.

I actually think all were terrible losses. Two home games and one against a team playing their first FBS game. That being said I think we have learned a lot, especially how to win, and if we had to face these teams today, we would win. The biggest improvement came on the defensive side of the ball, which was most likely due to the two week bye allowing for more teaching. Remember we started the year with Holiness and Downey hurt and found out Huber wasn't playing either. Imagine where would be if Holiness and Downey didn't play or if Barr hadn't learned how to play without just putting his head down and becoming a heat seeking missile.
