I wrote this ... it's gotta be true.
Maybe I should have said we will probably have trouble filling it with a high level opponent. Unless things break our way, we could be independent or in a crap conference. With the landscape changing, teams in crap conferences will have a more difficult time getting games with the big 5.Franklin Fanatic wrote:Why will we have trouble filling a spot 4 years from now?69MG wrote:Vandy just bought us out of the 2018 game at Gillette. We get $650,000 but we will probably have trouble filling that slot.

Just a note: Umass didn't want to give up the home game. Vandy wanted to change the date and Umass couldn't. I am sure if the date worked, the game would have been rescheduledDickie Dunn wrote:How do you know this?jjmc85 wrote:I REALLY don't like this. UMass won't have a conference at that point and time. ^I find this very hard to believe given that per Matty V. we only have 2 games scheduled for 2018, Sept. 1 at Boston College and Sept. 15 at Florida International. Seems like it shouldn't have been that difficult to come to a mutually available date if they really wanted to make it work. I have a feeling there is more to the story here...

Vanderbilt 2017
09/02 - at Middle Tennessee
11/04 - Western Kentucky
UMass 2017
09/16 - at Temple
09/23 - at Indiana
Maybe Vandy wanted to move this one up a year, I personally believe we do not want to keep loading up our OCC schedule so we said thanks, but no thanks.
Just a thought.

UMass '10 but I run with the '06 class
Don't forget that this also depends on Vanderbilt's schedule - they might have had limited availability that just didn't fit UMass's availability. Also keep in mind that use of Gillette might be limited in the future, and that was probably one of Vandy's demands (they will not come to McGuirk, regardless of how much some prefer it).

They've been on the receiving end of two massacres already, and last year we were only down 10-7 going into the 4th quarter. I dont think now is the time to be expecting a blowout.njumass08 wrote:According to Matty V, Vanderbilt is going to be handing out "Massacre UMass" stickers before the game.
I get it, it's cute, but you'd think with their current struggles they might want to be a little more reserved.
Yes, plus gridiron games are scheduled years, sometimes a decade+, in advance. If not 2018, then why not a different season before or later? To soon be without a conference affilation, albeit changes can occur, scheduling will become increasingly challenging. In particular, scheduling home games in 1-A tiny McGuirk. Who knows, maybe something positive's afoot.Crank wrote:^I find this very hard to believe given that per Matty V. we only have 2 games scheduled for 2018, Sept. 1 at Boston College and Sept. 15 at Florida International.
