I have been obsessed with UMass basketball since I went to UMass but never really got into the football program (only two times I've been in McGuirk were for a UMass-Syracuse lax game and for my graduation), but I can already feel that changing after the hiring of Whipple.
Watching that press conference yesterday, the guy just has an unbelievable personality and I couldn't be happier with the hire. I'm pretty confident that bringing Whipple back into the fold will have a similar effect on many other UMass alums that might not have been too into the football program.
I already know for a fact I will attending my first UMass football game next year.

KTabz, You do know the Revs don't have a game at Gillette on August 30th, right?
I an all seriousness, I'll have a beer with your name on it at my tailgate. Stop on by. The parking lot gets rowdy. The Doyle clan takes up about 20 spaces, you don't want to mess with them. They know how to roll.

You're better off making it two UMASS Football games.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Trying to pass the time until there is more football info (or a hoops games). Noticed in one of Matty V's articles that Whip came to Boston Tuesday night to meet with fans and Alumni...
did any of you go? If so, anything to report?

Damn, with all the pub that they have had surrounding this hire you would think they would have made much more of such an event. I had no idea, I would have gone.
UMass '10 but I run with the '06 class

Maybe it was only for football alum? I don't get how I didn't hear about it. I'm on this site all the time, I follow their facebook and twitter accounts, I'm a donor, a season ticket holder and a football ambassador. I would have definitely gone.
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.

I think it was just for the big donors and important people. We're just regular donors and season ticket holders

They really did slip up. In addition to the UMass system staff officers in Boston, members of the 100 Yard Club (football's Court Club) were invited. Beyond that, I don't know.
At least one regular poster here attended. The Boston weather - hard rain and fog - and traffic were terrible.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

I'm in the 100 Yard Club and I didn't see a thing about it.
I wouldn't have been able to go anyways, but still would have liked to have at least seen an email. (Who knows, maybe they lost my email address).
