That Idaho program is a true dumpster fire. Don't be surprised if the Sun Belt boots them (and NMSU) after this season. Very likely we could see them reclass to FCS.

If any program is so desperate that they go out and hire a guy who royally screwed up his last football team, their program already WAS a dumpster fire

Let's see... #2 program in their state despite being the flagship state U, on campus stadium that seats under 20,000 and looking at being an independent to stay in FBS. I empathize with Idaho.

It's not the same situation, Idaho has been in FBS for a long time now with only a couple years of even moderate success to show for it. UMass just moved up. If in 20 years we're in the same spot as Idaho then I'd empathize.

Also, I'm not sure what type of "storied" 1-AA history they have? Their all-time record is 150 games under .500, and they are 6-11 in the 1-AA/FCS playoffs. Check out their history: http://www.winsipedia.com/idaho They had some good years in the Big Sky, that is true. Their best years.

You'll notice that from about 1928 to 1981 they were generally terrible. Then, from they year 2000 on (all FBS) they have also been generally terrible. They had their biggest period of success when they were in the Big Sky; it might make a whole lot of sense for them to go back there.

And that is not the same thing as UMass, as I've said, we just started our transition. If in 15/20 years we have a performance in FBS similar to Idaho's then we can talk about it.

Also, and maybe this is harsh, but I have exactly zero empathy for a school that would hire Molnar after his tenure here. Zero. They also have Paul Petrino as the HC acting like a goddamn clown. That's where the majority of the "dumpster fire" comes from.

By comparison, this is us: http://www.winsipedia.com/umass Right dead on .500 for the life of the program.

Winsipedia? Yikes. I think some folks have too much time on their hands. Including me.

Here's my favorite part of our record posted there:

Harvard Freshmen (MA) 0-1-0
MIT (MA) 0-1-0
Northampton YMCA 0-1-0
Phillips Andover Academy (MA) 0-1-0

Hey, I used Google and that came up

Though now that I've found it I'm sure to waste some time there.

That Northamption YMCA squad could've been a machine back in the day, we'll never know
