McGuirk Upgrade
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
It must have been a real pain in the ass.
The angle of incidence = the angle of reflection: REBOUND!
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
We all need to get in the Wheelbarrow before anything happens. That said my money is on the IPF because it is way cheaper than for instance the JMU one side upgrade for 62 Million. Think the IPF can be done for the price of the Sky box or less and benefits all sports.

McGuirk will not be touched until it becomes a perennial sell out and money is coming in to do it. ADA makes it impossible to touch the structure, however amenities and new seating that is not connected to the structure can be added.

I don't understand why you would waste a dime on McGuirk unless it was something absolutely necessary, such as the "bathrooms" they put in this year. There are other places to spend (or save) money than throwing money at a dinosaur of a stadium that isn't part of your long term plan for the future.

After I hit the lottery tonight, you can expect an announcement in a few weeks.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Agreed. Also while we're talking "long term", if we need to build a new stadium from the ground up... I'd like to see the stadium moved to a more central location (possibly near the Mullins center). Hate that McGuirk is in such an isolated part of campus. For Christ sake it can't even fit on the campus maps.MJatUM wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 12:12 pm I don't understand why you would waste a dime on McGuirk unless it was something absolutely necessary, such as the "bathrooms" they put in this year. I've made that suggestion for a long time. Not that I dislike the current location, but it would be nice to have the facilities together in some form or fashion, similar to BC and Michigan's setup.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
After building the new locker facilities and press box do you really think that they would build a new stadium elsewhere on campus?

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Actually yes. The locker room/weight room could become the new south end zone or an ancillary building, especially if an IPF were built between the locker room and a new stadium. The press box is literally a mobile home on stilts it can be moved. The other option would be to make McGuirk itself the IPF The track, soccer, Field hockey etc. field are all in the area now and using the parking lot or area between McGuirk and Sortino files is a possibility. Not sure how realistic, but why use the old footprint? There a lot of parking lots and poor rod configurations in SW parking. Building a new facility could mitigate that mess.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Sure why not? If the stands need to be torn down anyway for any kind of expansion, why not just build an entirely new stadium elsewhere? So the press box is probably a sunk cost (unless to JSF's point it can be used at the new one), but it's not like we'd need to build a second FPC. We'd essentially just turn McGuirk into a practice facility.

All of you people that have all these great ideas for a new stadium need to contact the AD with them and put up the bucks needed to make it happen.

So if you don’t have millions in disposable income laying around you shouldn’t express your opinion?

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
I did that regarding grass parking. We all know how that ended up.
