Trigger Burke's number is retired for the money he gave the program. I can easily name 50 people that contributed more to the success of UMass basketball than Trigger Burke. Naming a hall of fame for a donor is one thong, retiring a jersey for a donor is a joke and is merely a reminder of the rinky-dink reputation that our athletic department is trying to shake.

So let me get this right. He was the best player on a good team for the size of the school (4000) and the competition. He had the credentials as a player. He gave money to the school so he didn't deserve the reward for playing?

Except for the fact that he thinks Tony's number is hanging in the rafters at Mullins......it's on page 3 of the article where he talks about Tony being inducted to the UMass HOF.

What I learned from reading that article... dude is generous but you will NEVER see "anonymous" next to any donation he gives for anything.

So what Swampy? The guy's had a financially successful career, and he loves giving back. Better than being the dude who somehow thinks he's going to be the first person in the history of creation to take all his $$$ with him to the afterlife. Believe me, there's probably been a lot more of those types than people like Trigger.

So what? Well, like I said DUDE IS GENEROUS. However, a LOT of people are generous without mentioning it every time they're interviewed by the hometown rag.

Personally, I don't care where or how the money comes to the University. The more the better, obviously. Mr. Burke seems like a great guy and a great ambassador for the University. Especially the Athletic Dept. I guess I just don't see the need to repeatedly blow your own horn about it when interviewed. Seems strange actually.

Maybe he trying to get the point across that people need to donate and follow his example, even if not anywhere near the level he can afford.

Also agree with Swampy. Big big thanks to Trigger for donating all that he has, but self-promoting his donations is a bit distasteful.

If the university wants to issue press releases touting his generosity, fine, no issue with that. But Trigger could use a dose of humility to go along with his bankroll. His contributions have been awesome, but we don't need to hear him say how awesome.

On the other hand, is it not presumptuous to assume he has never been Mr. Anonymous...

unless Anonymous has a different meaning.
