Ed,

I brought my two young kids with me to the WonderBar benefit for Lorenzo 9 years ago when you first started this journey. A journey to help a fellow alum and total stranger. I wanted to show them what it means to be generous, charitable and part of something bigger than yourself. We've tried to instill that mindset in them but to hear this latest update so many years later is really inspirational because it is real-life proof of so many great attributes in everyday people. From yourself to your wife to the many people who contributed $, time, professional assistance, a kind word or just helped spread the word. I will be digging out my Lorenzo t-shirt and sitting down with both of them tomorrow to remind them of this incredible thing that a group of complete strangers have done to help someone out of the kindness of their heart. How a few hours spent eating pizza and listening to music helped a man do something that he probably thought would never happen. Thank you many times over for providing a real life example of how one person can make a difference by inspiring others to come together in common cause.
This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!

Ed, you are a good man and friend. The work you have done for Lo is impressive. And you have been a friend in need, indeed.

Big Week...

Surgery yesterday in Boston...
7-8 hours...
Doc called me last night to discuss what was done...
said they accomplished what they set out to do...

I saw Lo today just 17 hours out of surgery.
totally amazing what they did for him...

^ My curiosity is running wild, but even without understanding the specifics here, I’m convinced you’re doing something truly heartfelt for someone in need and it really is inspirational and impressive. I wish nothing but the best for you and Lorenzo. The world would be a better place if there were more people with your willingness to help others.

I just went back and re-read this whole thread...the entire thing. All I can say is amazing job, Ed. Your commitment to seeing this through and basically saving the life of a fellow human being, someone you didn't even know when this whole thing started, is absolutely incredible. Once Lo recovers from his surgery, I hope there are national media outlets who will be interested in doing this story. Well done, Ed, well done!

^ What he said.
I have teased Ed over the years about his need to be seen at Mullins. This is obviously NOT one of those times.

I was back in Boston yesterday to see Lo yesterday afternoon.
He was already out of ICU; doing remarkably well, all things considered.

Three family members drove in from upstate NY to see him yesterday...very nice/caring people.

will be heading back in soon to see him today, w Mrs SM.

Thanks, Ed, for keeping us up-to-date. I know you're not doing all this for any accolades but I have to say that you're an inspiration for going way out of your way to help a fellow human being.

Update...

Lo gave me a day off today...told me not to come in; that I needed a break...

Yesterday, we had a setback...
Surgeon called me 11 a.m. re: a complication...
explained it and needed to work on it posthaste...

I got in @ 4:30 p.m. and the doc came in to check Lo shortly after.
He was very pleased with the results of what he did earlier in the day, calling the improvement with the problem "AMAZING!"

I am not getting into any details here.
Fortunately, I am fairly knowledgeable re: medical issues and understand most of it.

Here, other than Swampy, it would likely be difficult to absorb.
It's rather deep...

They are using a hyperbolic chamber to assist in the cause...
Fortunately2, there happens to be one down the hall from Lo.

They did more with that again this a.m., and Lo says it went well and he did some physical rehab today.
