Lorenzo Sutton
REQUEST FOR HELP!
This is an SM request for caring assistance...(not $$$ related)...
Lo is down in the dumps re: lack of friends to communicate with...
just acquaintances; no close pals...
I want to put together a group of posters & viewers of hoops.com who are willing to occasionally call and chat with Lo some, especially re: the good old times...those who saw him play would be a plus...
I cannot emphasize enough that this is a spirits raiser; not a fund raiser...
If interested, you know how to contact me...

I want to share a little re: what Rhonda Fleming recently passed along to me re: Lorenzo...(Ms. Fleming has done a lot re: cancer related charity work)...
the "acts of kindness have certainly given Lorenzo the hope for a promising future and an example by which to gage his own life."

Pleasant surprise!!!
While most of you were probably watching the hoops games yesterday,
my Lo-helper alum, Tom, and Mrs. Sign Man, joined me for a drive out to Springfield yesterday, meeting up with Lo @ the Hoops HOF, then over to The Student Prince for a wonderful dinner and chat session; first time Tom & Mrs. SM were with Lo.
We were more than pleasantly surprised how well Lo is doing...
and none of this would have happened were it not for the alert here on hoops.com.
Lo is heading back home now. Hopefully, he'll be coming back sometime when we'll have more time for a little social gathering for you to join in on.

Re: Lorenzo Sutton
It has been a long journey of hope and success.
Lo is my dear friend...have we ever come such a long way from when it all started, early 2009.
What I am posting here today has been cleared by Lo...
Sometime this recent March, Lo told me he was ready to go ahead with reconstructive surgery.
It has been a long, long time coming.
We arranged for him to fly in late March, when he stayed here with us for a full week.
An initial appointment was scheduled in Boston, with a doc I know. He and I had discussed Lo's situation about five years ago.
The appointment went extremely well, and a second appointment was made, during the same stay, with another doc, a colleague, same facility, with a background specific to the history.
I will simply state that both surgeons have extremely impressive backgrounds.
Both were very optimistic about what they feel can be done.
I am not going to discuss any details here, just to say that the docs discussed with us what Lo wants to accomplish and are extremely confident it can be done.
The surgery date has been set up and will be in 2.5 weeks.
Lo will need to get in a couple days prior, and will need to be around post-op for a while.
With no other resources, we anticipate having him with us for the prior and about a week after his discharge.
Many of you were instrumental back in 2009+ ...
If you want to express anything about this here, I will pass it along to Lo.

Signman, you are a very generous man. Thanks for sharing this. I hope it all goes well for Lorenzo. I came to Amherst and started watching UMass basketball during Lorenzo's junior year. I enjoyed his basketball skills and have felt bad about his challenges since. Thanks for your willingness to be there for him.
