St Bona was probably ahead of us too. NIT was probably looking for a closer regional matchup with Seton Hall. If we had won VCU game i would say we would have made it to NIT. I dont think going to the MAC (if that ever happens) will hurt our chances as long as we play a good non conference schedule, which we didnt play this year.inthescoop wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 9:52 pm I really don’t get St Joes getting that last spot over UMass
Even if we were 1 and done, I would have gladly enjoyed a UMass NIT game

^ Correct. Losing to VCU in the quarters did us in. We didn't have a strong enough resume to get into any tournament. W needed to win at least one game and get to the semis to get an NIT bid. We didn't, St Joes did.

Re: 2023-24 Season
So we weren't invited to any postseason tournament?
Re: 2023-24 Season
We were not. The NCAA bid stealers squeezed the NIT field, in which we were borderline anyway.
The CBI is out there but that field is littered with low majors, and you gotta front $27,500 to get in. That's not really a big problem, but is the juice worth the squeeze? Arguably not. And FloSports does it, which everyone hates.

The CIT is back, but similar lousy low-majors in there also.

One of UMass' future conference opponents, Bowling Green, 20-13, is in the CIT as is 16-16 Texas Southern and 11-22 Alabama A&M.
The CBI has four teams with losing records: Evansville, 16-17; Presbyterian, 14-18; Delaware State 15-18; Chicago State, 12-18.

Re: 2023-24 Season
nope. Tell me again what the A-10 is doing for us?
Re: 2023-24 Season
Oh FFS...
The A10 got 2 NCAA bids and 4 NIT bids
The MAC got 1 NCAA bid and 0 NIT bids
Being in the A10 was not and has never been the thing holding UMass basketball back.

^ If UMass had beaten VCU, one of those 6 bids would have been theirs.

This is extremely true.

My post was in response to ZooMass84 asking what has the A10 done for UMass.

Yep. 100%
And thinking that the MAC will bring them back because the A10 was holding them back is truly delusional.

Yeah, I've said that for years... it's surprising that folks think basketball is going to walk in there and completely own that conference when we've struggled in the A10 more often than not. It is possible, sure, and I hope it happens, but it is not something we should expect.
The conference move is for a much larger purpose. I would have preferred what conference we went to to have been better than the MAC, but as we are seeing in this thread... it has always been UMass holding UMass back.
