diggins GF had a kid i think yesterday so i doubt he was there. Leveque was on bench..

My thoughts in random order

1. Gapare should have gone to prep school.. he is weak and tentative and somewhat clueless.
2. is Keon T really this pitiful of a 3pt shooter? if he is, why on earth would you waste a scholarship on a guard who cant hit 3s at a 35% clip.
3. decent game i guess by Martin, but it is telling when the other team doesnt guard him allowing for tougher interior defense on the other guys
4. guys stand around on offense.. sucks!
5. WTF Noah.. why engage with the other team.. EVER Those two Technicals basically ended the game, although i doubt we would have won anyway.
6. Weeks was a no show as he often is for some reason..I doubt he is back next year.
7. i know this is rampant because of the dooshnozzle guys in the pros.. but why do players worry about drawing the foul instead of making the bucket.

It could be Frank is having the same problem as say a Bill Belichick.. the old ways dont work with these candyasses.. I think the guys may already tuned him out.

Well I m trying to stay positive but frankly it was a shitshow. Bottom half of the Atlantic 10 again ?? Gotta be better. I m lost again. We should have the better talent as compared to the Bonnie’s.

Missing Diggins is probably no big deal. He hasn't done much thus far. However, if Wildens is absent for a long time we are no longer a big, tough team.
If/when Wildens comes back we need a lot more out of him. Other guys have had ups and downs, but he has been a lot less effective than I was expecting.

I like the effort that Kante gives, but he just isn't tall enough to control the paint. I'll reserve judgement on the season until after the SLU game.

I was at the Bill enjoying the UMass women rout.

I was planning to watch the replay on the +. From what I’ve read here, it may not be a good way to spend time today.

If they were playing well I would agree but this team is getting worse, not better. I'm officially worried this season is going doing the toilet fast!

^You may be right. Outside of the second half against Hofstra, we have looked horrible since beating Harvard. Loss at home to Lowell, good performance vs Hofstra, dog shit vs North Texas, sleepwalked vs Dartmouth, and then got our doors blown off by Bonaventure. Excuses for yesterday's performance:

Long holiday break? Bonaventure had a similarly long layoff
New roster learning to play together? Bonaventure lost just as many, probably more key players than UMass did
Schmidt is a really good coach? So is Frank Martin.

I'm still very optimistic about this team based on the quality of our coach and the talent on the roster, but they need to start putting it together in a big way. I keep saying it, I expected lumps and bumps early in the season, but we're in A10 play now. Let's turn it up.

Sorry to say this but when the best player on your team last night was Martin, that is not a good thing for this squad.

There's so much in here I disagree with.

1. Gapare is a monster talent who simply needs extended minutes in order to get fully acclimated to the physicality of the college game. He's probably the most talented kid on the team and he's hardly clueless. He just doesn't fully understand the half court offense (which isn't great to begin with) because he showed up a day before the year started.

2. The idea that a third string freshman PG should hit 35 percent from 3 is wildly unrealistic. Of 363 D1 teams, just 127 shoot over 35 percent. UMass as a team shoots less than 33 percent and that includes experienced shooters like Noah and TJ. It's not a waste of a scholarship to get a defensive-minded PG as a freshman. He'll be fine. He's here for the long haul, not to be a star this year or even next.

3. Martin was better yesterday but the ball doesn't move when he's on the floor. He's 24 years old and understands what Frank wants to do but he has very little talent and the fact that he got 26 minutes is nuts to me. if you're gonna get blown out, let Gapare and Luis develop. Give those guys more minutes in games like this.

4. Agree. Offense doesn't move with Noah and Cross on the floor together. Don't know why Cross got so few minutes yesterday.

5. Agree but it was a bad call. Happens all the time and refs don't always call it.

6. He's the least of our problems and wsn't used well yesterday in part because he's much better when Noah plays and Noah's minutes were limited due to foul trouble.

Re: candyasses comment: guess what? Plenty of coaches still win. You can say "kids are soft these days" or whatever but they've been saying that since the beginning of time. It's still about W's and L's and if Frank can't get them "his" way, maybe he should try alternative approaches. Better to win and adapt than lose and be stubborn.

This team will be fine. Still a lot of hoops left.

You put in a lot of work to question stevemaz? This guy thinks the football team will be 6-0 next year and St. Louis will be favorite by 15 Wednesday.
