He turned down $100K with us. You will never convince me that some under the table $$ offer wasn't communicated to him by more than 1 school.
I don't begrudge a player for leaving and going elsewhere for significantly more $. But at least have the fucking decency not to ghost the school/collective that you're leaving behind.
After you collected the money on top of it
To be clear, he collected $1,000 for signing the LOI. And then went radio silent shortly after. Surely could have been handled better, but wish him the best.

Did he or does he have to give back the $1,000? Or did he walk away with $1,000 free and clear? Just curious.

I wish him the best (unless they play UMass at some point, in which case I hope we stomp them in an upset) and hope he finds what he's looking for in NYC.

^ All indications are that he kept the $10,000. I'm sure someone from The Collective can confirm or deny this if they feel comfortable doing so.

I guess my other theory was true.. he used UMass and the collective to set the market and pump up other offers.

^^ I find it hard to believe that there isn't language in any contract he may have signed that requires pay back of any money received if he's not on the roster for the upcoming season.

It was $1000. I’m sure he kept it.
We appreciate all contributions and look forward to continue our growth. We presented 100k over 2 year opportunity to RJ, which was never answered. Total cost to Mass Co was $1,000.

^ My bad. It was only $1,000 but he should not have kept it if he did so.

And why are people wishing him well on here? He never earned any well wishes from umass fans. Fernandes fine, he earned our well wishes after a good career here but this guy whatever. Don’t let the door you smack you on the ass as you scurry out of town like a little rat RJ 😚

scholarships are non-taxable for tuition, books, fees, etc. but room and board are taxable. Doesn't matter for most students, because room/board value doesn't hit tax thresholds, but if you're making NIL or other $$, I think you have to pay

Do we really give a crap if he has to pay taxes? Personally, I'm no longer interested in anything he does unless he reverses course and comes back. Not much chance of that.
