2024 Recruiting
Re: 2024 Recruiting
I just googled his name and saw he is. I think would be a good get for us
Re: 2024 Recruiting
He doesn't want to be contacted, I read on X. I assume that means he knows where he is going already.69MG wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 5:20 pm Go hard after Danny Wolf from Yale. 7'0, 250 and has at least 2 years left.

Re: 2024 Recruiting
There are now almost 1400 names in the portal. Plenty of talent in there at all positions. We can reload easily if Frank still has the cache to get players to at least consider us and take a visit.
Re: 2024 Recruiting
Think about Frank Yr 1 to Frank Yr 2 and how he built his team. I have no doubt Frank Yr 3 will continue to build and the team will have talent. Just sucks always guessing the roster

Re: 2024 Recruiting
1400? That's a staggering number. There are 362 D1 basketball teams x 13 scholarship spots = 4,706 total scholarships available in D1 hoops. 1400 transfers is 30% of all available roster spots, and each team is losing on average 3.4 players to the transfer portal. Add in players exhausting their eligibility and that's a ton of roster turnover across college hoops. The transfer portal and lack of sit-out enforcement SUCKS.
Don't bother checking my math. I went to UMass, so I know it's right.

Juice, too early to be so fired up
I've tuned out to all this transfer stuff. When the roster is finally set again, I'll take a look at our team and see how we look and that will gauge my interest. I agree, the portal blows

didn't check your math, but I imagine the number for coaches to consider is >1400 already given D2 and JUCO transfers. and of course within D1, the number grows about every day. as long as no top guys from UMass enter, we should be fineJuice Stand wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 5:35 am 1400? Re: 2024 Recruiting
it's an insane amount of players, and you're right Bobolink, the amount of work coaching staffs have to do to rebuild their rosters and the numbers of players they have to scout is too much for me to comprehend.
Floyd, I was up early shoveling the driveway with this lovely (heavy sarcasm) April snow storm. It's never too early to get fired up about UMass hoops!

Re: 2024 Recruiting
Just for reference, last year ended with over 1,700 and they have until May 1 to enter. So we will probably be close to that by the end.

Juice, I just wait for 69 to gather all the info and post it here. He's like a recruiting info service.

Re: 2024 Recruiting
He really is, the man has it locked down. 1,700 over 362 teams is 4.7 transfers per team. With players exhausting eligibility, most teams are probably replacing 7 or 8 players a year. Barf.
Now that the free Covid year is starting to expire, I wonder how that will impact things going forward. There was a surplus of players due to that free year, but won't be the case any more. Next year will probably be the last year for anyone that had the free Covid bonus, unless they took a medical redshirt or something like that, but it should really start winding down.

Re: 2024 Recruiting
The good news is this should be the last year with Covid extra years, so an entire class of players will be out of the portalpalooza.
Re: 2024 Recruiting
I put this in the portal thread, but it's worth a second mention:

Re: 2024 Recruiting
I saw on X this morning UMass is still a contender for Qin Pang 6’9” F from NYC. Listed Iona, St John’s amongst others.
