2020 A10 Offseason News
Figured I’d start a thread like this so we could have a designated place to say “holy sh**” throughout the coming months whenever big transfers or recruiting news around the league happens.
I know everyone knows about the dumpster fire happening at Rhody, but it seems like it could be getting worse. Jermaine Harris just posted “Rhody family, thank you for the opportunity to play here” on his Instagram story. Losing Dowtin and Langevine was bad enough. Adding Martin and Harris to that (and I’ve been hearing possibly even Fatts as well!) has them looking like us in ‘17-18. Certainly not the worst news in the world from our perspective, just a wild scene over there...

Seems strange. Didn't players really go to bat for Cox after Hurley left?

Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
Fatts is declaring for the NBA draft, but keeping his options open. The same for Dayton's Crutcher. We know the deal at URI if Fatts leaves, they have almost nothing coming back.
If Crutcher leaves (I'm doubtful of that), Dayton will feel it. They lose Toppin to the NBA and graduate Mikesell and Landers, two key pieces. They still have some good players, but losing 4 of your top 5 scorers hurts.

It's all coming together according to plan.... the current powerhouses fall down and we come up.

Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
It’s too early to tell obviously, but I expect Dayton to bounce back and still be a double-bye contender by virtue of the fact that everybody and their mother in the portal and recruiting circuit will want to play for a top 5 team. Feel pretty confident that they’ll land a couple of big time guys.
Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
Has it been mentioned on the board that the A-14 is mumbling about a 20 game conference season?

Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
Not sure if I am in the minority or not but I always want the conference to be as strong as it can be. I want everyone, even our rivals, to field good teams.

I feel the same way. But l also enjoy a little drama.

Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
Haven't seen it mentioned but I like the idea. Would rather see UMass play more A10 teams and fewer America East teams to fill out the schedule.
One if by land, two if by slam!

^ Just saw this:
Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein
The Atlantic 10 is considering going to a 20-game conference schedule, per Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette McGlade.
McGlade: "With the inventory of non-conference games shrinking, we have to consider 20 games.
I assume it's because the P5s are limiting games against the riff-raff.

Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
Or possibly because the P5 teams are limiting their out of conference schedules to the really lower tier teams and conferences. Why play a UMass, especially on the road, when you can schedule Prairie View and Canisius at home for an almost automatic win? Financially they do just as well with the lowest risk possible approach.

Sports Psychic: if there is a season next year the A10 comes down to Richmond and UMass. Dayton also makes the NCAA tourney.
Re: 2020 A10 Offseason News
URI has landed two former 4* transfers from Maryland. Their front court just got bigger at 6'9 and 6'10. They didn't do much at Maryland, but I equate it to the way we feel about Fernandes. They also added Ousmane (6'9) a couple of days ago.

Maryland transfers Makhi Mitchell and Makhel Mitchell are headed to Rhode Island. Makhi averaged 3.0 PPG and 3.3 RPG. Makhel averaged 1.0 PPG and 2.3 RPG.

They already did, or at least the players left on their own. I think Fatts is the only one returning and even that's not set in stone since he's testing the NBA waters.
