Game 24, 2019-20: George Mason (2/9)

Post by 69MG » Thu Feb 06, 2020 11:48 am

OK, enough about the soap opera. We have a game on Sunday and it's important. I'm not sure why, but I think we'll play well and take this one.

Game 24, 2019-20: George Mason (2/9)

Post by MikeUMA » Thu Feb 06, 2020 1:48 pm

We get a little bit of an extended break as we go from a Tuesday game to Sunday vs George Mason at home. 2:30 at The Bill. NBCSN has it if you can't get there.

Mason has been off since Saturday, having lost at Bonaventure. They beat us on 1/22, then dropped their 3 games since, the others being at Davidson and home vs Rhody.

For us, this opens up a 3-game homestand: Mason, Dayton 2/15, SLU 2/18.

This game has a bit of meaning to it...
- We can't win on the road, so we gotta get this one vs a beatable Mason team, which is 1-5 overall on the road, 2-7 in the league (11th place)
- At 3-7 we're currently in 10th place, and that gets us out of the Wednesday game in the tournament. Losing to Mason give them 10th and bump us down to 11th, back into Wednesday.

This is a must win to stay out of the Wednesday games.

This is the one I've had circled on my calendar for the last couple weeks. This is the game we need right now to give us a little cushion over Mason and get out of the Wednesday game. Can't wait.

This is one Patriots team I like to see lose.

We have lost 8 straight to George Mason.

6 of those 8 losses are by 5 points or less.

A win here would be huge, could change the morale of the program this season. Would be nice to get one.

I'm feeling optimistic. We nearly beat them at their place.

Looking at the last game, there are 3 things that we need to fix.

Greene, a 6'2 guard went off for 32 points.
We got outrebounded 45-32.
They shot 29 free throws to our 18 and they were not all at the end of the game.

We really ought to know how to guard Greene this time around. He just waltzed in to the rim over and over again. Just get in front of him, for chrissake!

He did the same thing GW was doing and Davidson did to start the game. We can't seem to stop simple curls into the lane. Layups for opponents all day.

Feeling optimistic and praying we've made adjustments to improve interior D. It looked a lot better in Kingston. Gotta take this one!

I hope that is their plan, we are ready for it, and they have no plan B.

Looking at the Mason chatter they are going to double Tre (makes sense) and make our perimeter players beat them. That's a sound strategy for anyone who watched the URI game. It's time for Carl and Sean to break out.

Tre can beat double teams.
