2020-21 Season
Re: 2020-21 Season
I'm really disappointed hearing this. We'll probably never find out who the person is that got infected but I'm mad at him or her nonetheless.

Re: 2020-21 Season
Odds from the data showed this would happen eventually. They are probably testing close to 50 people associated with the team 3 times a week. Sucks they have to pause for 14 days for what could be an asymptotic case of a non player.

Whoever it is, he/she is a victim, not to be scorned.
Overall UMass is doing a very good job in managing the virus.

Wow, just wow. 2 weeks. Not cool.
Imagine an entire pod gets covid before even playing each other.
Not good.
Hopefully we still have hockey in like 3 days

A victim, perhaps. I certainly hope that person is OK and makes a full recovery. If they got infected because they were careless and cost the team 2 weeks I retain the right to be be angry about it. If they were careful and we all know that shit happens, then they have my complete sympathy.econalum wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 7:58 pm Whoever it is, he/she is a victim, not to be scorned.

With Preston Santos leaving the team...with hope that first and foremost he's well and that his departure is not permanent...and the cancellation of the bubble event in CT, my optimistic feelings for the season have become a bit more fragile than they were at the beginning of this week.

Re: 2020-21 Season
The college basketball season is going to be even more disjointed than football because all practices and games are indoors. I'm not sure they can pull this off without a series of multi-team bubbles in set locations. I heard Pitino suggested today the NCAA tournament should be delayed until May, and for once he makes sense.
Re: 2020-21 Season
The likelihood of weekly changes to the college BB schedule is rife. Just review all the FB changes/delay/cancellations, and CFB is 99% played outdoors, versus BB.
Will many D1 basketball programs actually complete 15 games? I'll take the under.
Fortunately, a 95% effective virus preventative is coming, but too late for this season en masse, as rightly first responders and the critically targeted are first in line.
Pitino might be right, shifting the season two months into May may be the best approach.

I predict Umass Basketball will not see the court until, at least January 2 if at all this season

Re: 2020-21 Season
Yep, this sucks... was really looking forward to things getting started next week.
With that said, this pandemic is a beast and I'm not going to get mad or upset at any of the players or staff that got infected... it could happen to any of us, even while being as safe as we can. If there was a misstep, that's a shame, but not worth getting mad about.

Nothing we can do about it other than take the necessary precautions and hope we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Re: 2020-21 Season
Agreed on the target date. Seems clear that the A-10 wants to play and keep their commitments to TV. Our games before then are both ESPN+ only, so no big impact on those. Jan 2 is slated for NBCSN.
Things are gonna change weekly if not daily between now and then. We'll see.

Early morning tweet today from Rothstein:
Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein
UMass is aiming to end its quarantine and return to practice on Thursday, per Matt McCall.
Wondering if that practice on Thanksgiving Day would be in bubbleville, leading to games there. Nothing on any schedule that I've seen, so suppose not, although many games set for there won't happen because 1 team is out.
Also seen this morning: 11 of the ~140 NCAA CBB games scheduled for Wednesday (the day after tomorrow!) have been cancelled/postponed so far. All for the same reason.

The department already announced they weren't participating in Bubbleville anymore.
