All right! Now we're competitive in the conference, assuming Fernandes is at least as good as Sean East was. (Fair assumption, right?) Also, he's got to stay healthy. We finished the second half of the conference 5-4 and it should have been 6-3 except for a really bad call at a time when refs always swallow their whistles. (I say it was a really bad call because it was massive blocked shot with body contact, and they never call body contact a foul in that situation. Never happens. Except it happened.) Okay, on to the future. Stay healthy, everyone!

The NCAA announced the start of the season will be Nov. 25th, pushed back from Nov. 10th. https://www.gazettenet.com/NCAA-basketb ... g-36292988

It's interesting that they are not extending the season but rather condensing it. 27 games max.

If Fairfield gets on this year's UMass schedule, it will be within the 2-week period where the MAAC will play non-conference, given today's announcement from them:

"Nonconference games will take place between Nov. 25 and Dec. 6, with conference play beginning in men's basketball on Dec. 8"

Having Fernandez is YUGE, even if he's a little guy.

Can't wait for the season.

So this would be our starting lineup, I presume: Fernandes, Pierre, Weeks. Mitchell, and Walker. That's a damn good line-up, the best we've put forward in years. Even decades. (This is assuming Fernandes is the real deal.) Santos and Gasperini are guaranteed minutes, especially plenty for Santos. He will be one of the best 6th men in the league. KMitchell and Garcia will compete for back-up PG time. The remaining members of the roster are three true freshmen. Of those, I expect DeGray to get the most minutes. He's a complete player, kind of like who we were hoping Samba Diallo would become, but didn't. I don't see Dominguez or McCrory having enough game to contribute much this year. Here's some conference awards speculation (barring injury):
Tre MItchell - Player of the Year, 99% likely
TJ Weeks - All Freshman Team, 75% likely
Preston Santos - 6th Man, some chance
Noah Fernandes - All Conference 3rd Team, some chance
Ronnie Degray - All Freshman Team, slim chance

You may notice a lack of love for Javohn Garcia here. If the pundits have it right, he'll be in contention for the All Freshman Team. I just didn't see it looking at the game tapes from Brewster which were available on youtube. About 2.5 games, I think.

It's not the Brewster play that got him here. Its the eybl pg play that got him to Brewster and here.

But thank you for taking the time to share your excellent analysis. As far as I can tell as a novice, you are spot on. Let's hope they stay healthy and play as a team. I think we will.

Go UMass!

^I think you're right about that. He got stuck behind Jamal Mashburn Jr at Brewster.

^ It wasn't just Mashburn. Take a look at the Brewster roster, check the guards and see where they committed. It's not a surprise that JG had to fight for playing time.

Put Preston, McCrory, and JG out there together and there should be a bunch of forced turnovers. Love these guys who dig in and scrap on D, and do all the little things to make positive impacts. Love Preston's all around game and energy, and looking forward to seeing Cairo and Garcia suit up

I agree, this team looks very talented, balanced, and deep. Just hope we can have a regular schedule this season

What have you seen from McCrory?
