Game 14, 2019-20: at Saint Louis (1/5)
Game 14, 2019-20: at Saint Louis (1/5)
Has anyone seen St. Louis play? I'm going just by the stats for my observation. Other than the clunker the other day at Duquesne they have played very well, losing only to Auburn and Seton Hall.
It seems like they pack it in and dare you to shoot from the outside. Teams are shooting 35% from 3 against them, but only about 42% from 2 which is pretty stingy. They have only allowed over 70 points twice so our D better be really good.

hmm, that might be a season first
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Nice game for Dibaji and Carl to light it up from deep. Opens things up for Sean and Keon to drive and find Tre or score themselves. They give us the 3 and we're hot, it'll be a game
Time to Win

I see blowout written all over this one . . . SLU just had their worst game all season at Duquesne, they'll play well no doubt at home, we ALWAYS play poorly at SLU and our 3 pt shooting (w/o TJ) is inconsistent along with our poor road record in the MM era . . it's an easy call.

Saint Louis open up as -11 point favorites.

At some point talented players start playing well on the road.
Re: Game 14. 2019-2020 SLU 1/5/20
last year was very close out there. Samba played very well. Carl was good, but didn't get many shots off. Djery wasn't good, fouling out, but he hadn't played much before that. No one could stop Hassan French, a guy who shots 37% on FTs and went 7 for 10. In fact, SLU shot way better from the line than usual and only won by 3.
This year, SLU has been way better than UMass. Both teams are missing their top shooting freshman stars. if UMass can hit 3s, handle the defensive glass, and match their intensity, it will be close, but I don't expect it.

They’ll need to be hot from 3 to have a good chance. I think it will be like that pretty much every game against a top half of the conference team.

We have faced St Louis three times since Travis Ford took over as coach - 2 road games, 1 home game. You may remember the first being that foul-fest in which SLU took 55 free throws, and the second when we got blown out on Marcus Camby day. UMass is winless against Ford since he left UMass (never faced him when he was at OkSU). They're big and physical, and I don't expect our young guys to be ready for that type of game. I hope I'm wrong, but I think SLU takes this one fairly easily.

They are big and physical, but they are not a tall team (with long arms ). Their starters are:Juice Stand wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 7:54 am

Goodwin - 6'3 Tough as nails and gets 11 boards a game
French - 6'7 We know how tough he is. 2.5 blocks and about 10 boards a game
Jacobs - 6'2
Collins - 6'0
Bell - 6'10 He only scores 3.6 a game and gets 3 boards. He starts, but only plays 13 minutes a game.
Ford primarily uses 8 guys (2 others are out) and the 3 guys off the bench are 6'6, 6'4 and 5'10. So height is not an issue, strength and physicality are the challenges.

Down to -10 in a lot of books. Sad to say but I’m taking SLU all day at that spread.

Maybe Djery can be a factor on the defensive end today. If he can somewhat neutralize their interior players and grab rebounds that will go a long way. Mentioned earlier, and I agree, the most interesting matchup of the day is French and Tre. Tre's development, and especially how he looks in conference play, is going to be fascinating to watch.

Why do reference two players together (Dibaji and Carl) regarding shooting, one of whom has 21 career 3 point field goals and one of whom has made 213 - 3 point field goals. And they guy who has 21 is 1 for 6 this season. Please make him earn something before you start putting him in the same sentence as Carl.
