As frustrating as it is to see them lose a game they could have won, that’s how encouraged I am about the future. The uneven play is a function of inexperience.

Two straight close road losses against decent, more experienced teams. I had hoped for a split, w@Akron, but never expected them to win both.

I will say this, despite the adversity this team has faced, as the conference schedule starts, they’re playing better than I thought they’d be playing.

The W’s will come.

The wins will come as long as they can maintain their attitude. That won't be easy, it will be a real test of the coaching.

SLU went 2 for 12 on 3s and had 23 turnovers. Gotta win when that happens. I saw a little of SLU vs. Duquesne a couple days ago and much of today's game, and think SLU is one of the weaker teams in the A-10 (may not stay that way given Travis Ford coaching). Today's loss may be understandable given UMass' youth/inexperience, but at some point you have to get a W.
This year is 1-4 in close games (decided by 5 or less). 0-2 in OT. Last year 3-9, 0-2 in overtime. Combining this with the poor execution out of timeouts and failure to make the obvious plays (e.g. foul French today), and figure coach has a lot to learn. Not easy with trying to juggle Kolton coming back today and Dibaji last game, but that's the job and it's time to get it done.

SLU looked horrible and still lost. Had a chance up 5 in overtime and couldn’t get it done. Man, French would have looked great for us.

Why no walleye at the game tonight? Did umass charter to this game? If so why not put him on there to get the coverage?

They did rebound pretty well today, especially on the offensive glass, Samba in particular. Hopefully he develops skill-wise on the offensive end because he brings so much else to the table. But spacing wise he hurts us With his lack of a jump shot and outside of quick post ups and follow ups, he isn’t a great finisher around the basket either.

I don’t know, man. I wasn’t impressed by SLU — outside of that one defensive stretch where they really put their foot on our throat to take control of the game, I didn’t see that much from them that had me thinking they should be among the top teams in the league. They are physical and play hard, but offensively they are tough to watch.

Anywho here’s to continued improvement and a WIN against LaSalle.

Loved Samba's play. Was a monster on the glass and very active on the floor. He still has a bit of baby deer in his game, but grabbing 14 boards on the road against a team like STL is impressive.

I love Samba's aggressiveness. He's a good rebounder and defender, and runs the floor very well. Tough kid too

Probably tougher for the team than fans right now as I had little expectation for this season other than getting the program turned in the right direction, and I think it is trending that way, with some hiccups.

I can think of 20 or 30 plays that made a difference. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. MM will say that there is no such thing as a moral victory and he is right. However, we went toe to toe with one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the A10 at their place. The only home game they lost was to Seton Hall. If we play this hard and this well (I can hear the boo-birds now) against all but the the top 2 tiers of the A10 we'll win more games than I was expecting.

The big test is LaSalle in Wednesday. They are 10-4 but not nearly s good as SLU. We need to win this one.
After watching that game Sunday, if St. Louis is one of the 4 or 5 top teams in the A10, then the A10 might not be as strong as some of us thought. Not impressed at all with St. Louis.

^ STL is what they are at this point. They play tough defense, active on the glass, big-wide bodies. Still can't shoot. Their best players are Juniors so I think there was an assumed jump for them, but I don't know if I can see it coming. In fairness, they were playing without their 3rd leading scorer who does shoot 43% from the outside. I know this can be countered with Weeks not playing, just another skill guy that could have hit some shots. It's still Dayton/VCU and everyone else. That second tier is awfully crowded now though with Duquesne and Richmond playing well.
