Kenpom says UVA 3rd, UMass 192nd after the win today. A distance.

https://kenpom.com/
1. Duh. UVA is the defending national champ. Obviously there is a divide between UMass and UVA
2. After 4 games it might be a little early to put any stock in statistical rankings, don't you think Econ? I'd wager that UMass will finish higher than they are now (not top 100, but higher than 192). In fact, they'll probably rise in rankings just from playing UVA, regardless of outcome. Start paying attention to rankings after the OOC wraps up.
Kenpom is a particularly bad ranking to cite early in the season since it is prior-season weighted at the beginning of the year (not a bad thing in itself but does have the obvious weakness of poor predictive value when teams change dramatically year to year). In any case, anyone who expects UMass to beat UVA is wearing very maroon-colored glasses.

As long as they hang in and keep playing, it'll be a great learning game for them. Don"t expect a win, but I do think they'll compete. This team is pretty deep, ...young, but deep.

Hope Buggs isn't hurt bad. I've never seen a kid who looks like he's truely loving playing for UMass as much as him. I was hoping for him to hit a few shots and when he went down, it sucked. Come back strong JB, we're all pulling for ya!

Just want to see Umass score more than 40 against them.. 87 this is the kind of game a DK team would have shot 47 3's and won by less than 10 even if they were superior in every way

Sean East is a Beast! Love the kid's game.
Absolutely, and I think today was his worst game so far. He made a couple of bone headed plays and sloppy passes early in the game so McCall didn't play him as much in the 1st half, in part because Keon was so damned good. East had 25 minutes played, 3 turnovers, which is still good, just not as good as the previous games. He got back in the flow in the 2nd half and really looked great. This is an impressive group.

Yeah, he got called for a couple questionable fouls that cut his time a bit, but he had a couple of those floaters in the lane that were excellent. Kid can play

Congrats to the team on another win! Nice to be able to write that. Happy for all you season tix holders that are getting to see some fun basketball! Looking forward to watching them when I get a televised game.

Sad to see how many tix holders didn't come back this year. The team plays the right way and their attitude is great. They deserve more support, especially students

First, and most important is that we all pray for JBuggs and hope it isn't as serious as it looked.

As to the game, I loved Samba's play today. He impacted the game in so many ways. He shot well, rebounded, played great D and had a bunch of deflections. Just a bundle of energy on the court.

They only credited Djery with 12 boards and 3 blocks. I think they were short on both counts. His best game in a while, albeit against a horrid team.
Keon was also spectacular, again in all phases of the game.

On to Rider, a much better team than CCSU, but still a game we should win.

I don’t see Buggs get hurt. When he was being helped off the court I thought it was his right ankle. When he returned it was his right knee that was bandaged.

I was impressed by the crowd’s support and that he came back out to sit on the bench.

To me another example of this team’s chemistry.

Keon played the game of his like. He usually does everything well except scoring, but today he did that too!

Seemed like there were more students there today...hopefully word of mouth about how much fun it is to watch these guys play creates a buzz that starts to fill the Bill! 8)

The bill will fill up but it won’t be overnight. Need a signature win to really get the wagon rolling. The game vs South Carolina I could see students turning out for

Was there a big drop in STH who did not return? I know overall numbers haven't been good yet, but they should get better. Hopefully if there are that many STH's who left, they'll come back once they see how much of a TEAM this team is.

You could see how much Buggs is liked by his teammates. They looked visually sick when he went down and they all went over and sat with him, arms around him when he made it back to the bench. Another sign of this team being a TEAM.

Djiery has been awesome this year. Defensively, on the boards, energy...the ultimate team guy. The perfect backup for Tre (we're actually probably better on defense with DJ than Tre as it looks like Tre's offense is ahead of his defense so far) and the perfect role model for Tre and everyone else.

Hope no one is looking past Rider. This is the definition of a trap game. Fans and the young players alike looking forward to Virginia. Rider is legit. Picked 3rd in a pretty good MAAC conference this year...it's early but Bracketology on ESPN has them getting the bid out of the MAAC. In the overall view of things, the Rider game is more important than Virginia...lost against them and we possibly could be starting a 3 game losing streak with Rutgers, SC, Harvard and Yale after next weekend.

^ Likewise Floyd.

^^^Fans are finding their way back. I saw several fans today who came for the hoops 'n' hockey double-header who would only have come for hockey last year.

Gotta keep it going...and hope the Bill starts to fill....with more students.

The place rocks when the students show up and get into it!
