Sure, but why are they better. Why weren't you able to compete, or impose your style of play? Getting housed by Harvard in front of a good UMass crowd, losing a 9 or 10 point 2nd half lead over St Johns and eventually getting blown out, the press getting sliced and diced by everybody; these are questions that need to be answered by the coaching staff. Look at it, improve, and then move on.

Agree, but sometimes you just have to say those other teams are better at this point, and they are.
FYI. Northeastern beat Harvard.......think back to how UM did against Northeastern.

Ah yes, the old transitive property. So, according to your logic, since we beat CCSU, and CCSU beat ... oh wait, nevermind, we're good.

Tough one to watch. UMass got beat badly in every aspect of the game. I'm very concerned about the coaching staff's abilities to adapt, adjust and improve the players both individually and as a team.

I've now seen our team up close at Rutgers and Harvard. As has been noted, the other "big boy basketball" guys are older, larger and stronger. Our guys are getting quite frustrated, one example today being Tre's last ten minutes of avoidable fouls before he fouled out.

It's tough to see your opponent be wide open for a stuff every 3-4 times down the court. I hope that our staff back off this stupid "press at all costs" strategy before they lose the team.

Really, that's what you're going with? As much as I love UMass, right now I'd say if we played Harvard in a 10 game series, they'd probably win 7. Right now a little bigger, more experienced, and I'd say better coached/prepared team. It is what it is.

Coaches need to teach these kids some defense and make them understand that if they don’t play very physical they are going to get stomped.

Harvard is a much more talented, experienced team. After the first 5 min of pressing full court we should have switched to a 2/3 zone and try to limit their easy baskets.

Bergeron's press worked in h.s. This ain't h.s
edit: McCall blamed the players in his post-game interview. He should have said, "It's my job to get them ready and they weren't ready."

Well that was horrible, saw absolutely nothing to be excited about or build on in this one. Team looked slow and timid. Coaches didn't have them prepared at all. They continue to slam themselves against a brick wall and wonder why they are bleeding with the press, no clue.

On to the next one.

You can play the press if you have the bodies and the athletes to do so, which we don't right now. I don't have an issue with implementing this style of play, but it cant be the whole game. Next year we will be adding 4 new guys (counting K. Mitchell) and losing two (Baptiste and whomever transfers.. I suspect Clergeot). I am concerned McCall is not the guy to lead us back to NCAA though. We shall see how things go in A10 play this year and how things develop next year. My prediction for this year is 7-6 non conference if we beat Akron and then 7-11 in A10 play. 14-17 would be a disappointment so I hope I am wrong.

The way the team is looking, I would be pleasantly surprised with 7-11in conference.

I thought the same thing when I heard the postgame interview, but he sent this message out on Twitter: https://twitter.com/CoachMattMcCall/sta ... 6865187840
I just want to thank all of the UMass fans that came to Harvard today! Our effort and execution was bad and that’s what’s most disappointing. That’s on me. I love this group and this team and we will continue to grow and get better. Brighter days ahead! #Flasgship

Teams have tape on us now. Other coaches watch the tape, spend about 20 mins showing their team where to pass it and hello lay-up line. We need to switch it up. If we keep pressing 100% of the time we will get killed in the A10 and we are looking at a 10 win season.

I didn’t think the press was a liability yesterday, but they were exposed in the half court D. Not boxing out, not staying between your man and the basket, and not rotating. This squad has a loooong way to go.
