Around the A10 (2019-2020)
Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)
I think a lot of it has to do with trying to create a more fan appealing game with more action, athleticism, and high scoring. Its all about money and fans in the seats, and attendance numbers. Whether it works or not, we'll find out

^ I've got a wild idea... instead of pushing the 3pt line out, pull it in to about 15-18ft away from the basket. That is guaranteed to pull defenders away from the paint and keep them there by discouraging them from leaving their assignment for help defense... thus opening up the floor and creating a more exciting game.

Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

And add a 4 point line about 28 feet out, and do interviews with crazed WWE type players. Chair throwers like Booby Knight were years ahead of the time.
Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)
Or erase the three point line altogether and go back to playing basketball old school.

^ C'mon man...you're not that much older than I am.
My kids bought me the history of the Celtics DVD set for Chanukah several years ago.
The triple overtime playoff game against Phoenix is on it. No doubt that it would not gone into OT at all if the 3-pointer was an option then.
If long shots are good for three points, maybe dunks should only be count as one point.

One point for two handed dunks, 1 1/2 points for one-handers, and 4 points from beyond the half court line. In fact, you could make the court like a giant dart board with different point values from everywhere on the floor. You'd need an additional ref. Or maybe the floor could light up from wherever the shot was made like a pinball game. That would get people into the seats! It's a long off-season.LS71 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 10:34 am ^ C'mon man...you're not that much older than I am.

If you're suggesting that we start using MTV rock N' Jock basketball rules, which is a completely ridiculous notion, then I am totally in. Niles is right, bring in the 3-point line to, what did he say, 6.5 feet? Then, create an additional line for 4 points at around the free throw line, and then the current 3-point line isn't worth any points, but everyone in the stands gets free popcorn with every shot made from down towwwwwnnnnn!
Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)
I'm glad everyone is getting a good laugh at my idea. The funny thing is that my idea is far less silly than the notion that making the 3pt shot HARDER is going to somehow IMPROVE things on the offensive side of the ball.
Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)
Well, contact the rules committee and let them know you have better ideas. Maybe they'll do it

^ The rules committee seems to be convinced of their backward logic, the opinion of some random basketball fan wouldn’t change that.
Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)
If you're right and defenses completely pack it in and "dare" teams to shoot from the new three point line AND offense suffers because of it... Then next season they will implement a defensive three seconds penalty similar to the NBA.
